Clean Install of Windows 11 Ni Preview Build works with Build 22557, but not with 22563, 22567, 22572, 22581, 22593, 25115

I created all 5 installation ISO files for all 5 Builds, but only 22557 contains all the system Apps required for a full clean install, the other 4 are missing all the basic Windows and System Apps needed for a functional system. Also, the App required for opening Windows Security (Microsoft.SecHeatlthUI) is missing, all this makes the resulting system unusable.

Last one on 22557.

Microsoft.SecHealthUI Microsoft.SecHealthUI_1000.22557.1.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe

I noticed another issue common to all the Ni builds, if they are used for an upgrade or in-place they may only work correctly if they are done online allowing the check for updates.

If I use the option "Change how Setup download updates" to "Not right now", the upgrade or update in place still completes, but it creates a problem on subsequent W.U.

In this case W.U. goes in a loop trying to Download and Install the same Build over and over. Error 0xc1900401 is logged in that case.

I could not find a way out of that loop.

If I do the same upgrade or update in place online letting the Setup check for updates, as recommended, the process may complete correctly without subsequent W.U. loop issues, but the behavior is inconsistent depending on how the previous update was done.

The official MS Insider ISO 22579 includes all the required Apps and the Microsoft.SecHealthUI which is needed for opening Security.

    Hi fg,

    Thank you for all your investigative research in these ISO images. Appreciate all your hard effort into this. Recently I have cut back on making images. I generally get the near monthly MSDN versions so I would be using one of these images on any working PC and update with CU offline anyhow.

    Not too pleased with the forced online section, as this may cause me issues in all the virtual machines. I still setup an offline account, and disconnect internet at the "Hi" screen on clean installs. Guess I will find out on the next VMware version upgrade if this actually works or if I will have to create new vm's.

    Have a great weekend my friend.

    Regards,

    Most of that was explained with the different choices. As you mentioned all one really needs is Store and Security as on any clean install, one is always updating for me like 33 apps. All those additional apps are listed in the Library of Store anyhow, so it comes down to how many one wants to include in the ISO image.

    The files that I grabbed from their forum, it uses a script to add the apps after the image is completed. That provides another way around this as well. Will be interesting to see which route abodi uses, as this is only required for NI builds so far.

    Regards.

    Hi Johnny,

    Still unclear how W.U, is downloading the updated Windows Apps with the new Builds.

    I'd like to be able to build the ISO from the files downloaded by W.U. without having to look for the Apps somewhere else.

    How is W.U. getting the new version of the basic Windows Apps?

    They must be downloading them one way or another?

    What we used to do before these Ni builds, was just pointing the converter script to the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and everything needed was in there, but not anymore with these new Nickel stuff. 😡

    See below the different size of the ISO for Windows 11 Pro en-us.

    The first is without Apps, the other three:

    AppsLevel 1 with 15 added Apps

    AppsLevel 2 with 19 added Apps

    AppsLevel 3 with 22 added Apps

    Image

    AppsLevel 0 with 58 added Apps

    Image

    The lists of the Apps included with each level are on my previous posts.

    It was much quicker to create the working ISO that way using both scripts. Tried with the parser and integrator listed on site, it cut it down to 58 files, but the integration took forever as it was integrating each of the 58 files one by one into an already done ISO. Just installing that one now.

    Regards,

    Hi Johnny,

    With converter v79 I just tried to build one ISO 22581.1 with only AppsLevel = 1, it only included 15 Apps instead of 58 as AppsLevel = 0.

    It has all the basic apps that are needed for a functional system.

    AppsLevel = 1 has 15 Apps:

    Just tried a clean install with it right now, it worked fine, have Store and Security, the other apps can be downloaded from the store.

    In this case I don't have Widgets in Taskbar Settings, while it was there when I used the previous ISO built with AppsLevel = 0.

    Not sure which App is needed to get Widgets in the Taskbar settings? Perhaps Client.WebExperience ?

    AppsLevel = 2 has 19 Apps:

    Image

    AppsLevel = 3 has 22 Apps:

    Extra work and time consuming to download the apps manually.

    But in this case, I can leave out what I don't want. 🤣

    @Sibro.o,

    Used the same 22581.200 ISO with Apps built with converter to Upgrade from 19044.1620 to 22581.200.

    Everything worked fine, nothing missing.

    Edition Windows 11 Pro

    Version 22H2

    Installed on ‎3/‎30/‎2022

    OS build 22581.200

    Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22581.200.0

    MS Store updated over 20 Apps.

    Image

    Edit:

    One minor difference, clean install versus upgrade:

    Clean install got the Widgets in taskbar settings.

    Upgrade from Windows 10 19044.1620 to 22581.200 did not get Widgets. 🤷‍♂️

    Maybe it requires AppsLevel 3 to include Widgets, I used the default set to 0 when I built the ISO, so it should include everything that is in level 3.

    Not sure why widgets are missing on upgrade from Windows 10.
