Fingerprint Sensor Not Working After Windows 11 Update

I have an Asus Vivobook 14 X413JA.

Yesterday, I downloaded the windows 11 insider preview build from the dev channel, but I was disappointed to find that windows hello couldn't recognize my fingerprint when I tried to log in.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers of my fingerprint sensor but still, it doesn't work.

I have an Acer Aspire A515-55

Window 11 PRO Version 10.0.22000 Build 22000

I have the same problem with the fingerprint reader

I downloaded the driver for this laptop from Acer and installed it for a fresh install. This did nothing.

Then I followed your instructions and my credential manager was set to "manual". I changed it to "automatic" through a local account then went back to my MS account. I removed my old fingerprint from "Windows Hello" then put a new one in. When I closed the laptop and reopened it the fingerprint reader worked. When I rebooted it would not. It seems it isn't being saved for some reason.

    Ok i have made one final sacrefice for science. I have just spend three hours doing clean install of RTM iso of win11 and can confirm that it's still the same. The system is not seeing the biometrics hardware at all. Well i hope MS and ASUS will find a way to sort this mess out. Peace.

    I did contact Asus about it because it's a brand new hardware but all they said is to wait for either the elan driver update or windows 11 update. Either way now i'm stuck with non existent fingerprint sensor. Shame.

    I've been a Mac die-hard for 25 years and recently decided to go in the other direction as I saw how lovely Windows 11 was. Now, I'm remembering why I so intensely disliked Windows machines... it's the bloody driver situation! Unlike a Mac, I understand there are so many laptop and desktop variations running the same OS. That said, they've had YEARS to spearhead the project! I mean how long between Win10 and Win11 has it been? Just wrangle all the manufacturers, give them the Win11 specs and provide a drop-dead date to have their driver included in to Windows 11. Otherwise, you don't get the certification to be Win11 compatible and users won't be able to upgrade. Truly, how hard can it be? If a piece of hardware didn't work in an Apple machine, the uproar would be deafening! Apple users demand the very best. Why don't Windows users?

    Anyway, my rant isn't helping you at all. Just know I commiserate with you and have so been there. I don't think it will be too long before an update to the OS or a a hot fix is issued. This is quite a long thread; think of how many others are like this on the thousands of Windows specific boards across the internet! *crossing fingers for you*
