I installed the new build, and I lost fonts, reply, forward buttons in Outlook. Tried everything to solve the problem, nothing worked, so I had to reinstall the old 9841 build.
You will get an update to Windows 10 Technical Preview soon
We hope you are enjoying the current build of Windows Technical Preview. We promised you’ll get the latest build as soon as it’s available. Today we’re rolling out the first update: Windows Technical Preview build 9860.
If you’re using the computer when the update downloads, you will be prompted to reboot after which you’ll see the “Installing your apps” screen, and then the new build will be ready to use. If you leave your computer plugged in and on overnight, the update will be installed automatically. Once installed, the build number displayed on the desktop will be 9860.
More information about build 9860 can be found here but some of the new features include:
- New notifications through Action Center
- Move apps to other monitors with new keyboard shortcut
- Choose how quickly you receive new builds
Please keep letting us know what you think! We are using your feedback to build Windows 10.

2014-10-23T14:28:56+00:00 Yes, just upgraded to build 9860 and I also have this issue with the missing on-screen characters. I've only noticed this in the modern apps and IE so far.
It looks like the font being used is not displayed correctly. Haven't tested it on AMD yet though.
Very weird.
Yes, same here, updated automatically and have missing characters in IE and Windows Feedback App
Fixed with the 2 updates
Windows Update: KB3010668 & KB3008956.
Had to do it manually

2014-10-23T14:27:36+00:00 Same problem here, PolAlvarez529,
the download failed 4 times on my slow connection. I don't know why MSFT has to make things difficult for us. There were various errors: 0x8024402C & later 0x80200056 are only 2 of them. I am trying for over 15 hours now. Why can't they show the progress bar? I don't even know whether the download has actually started or it will end up with a error.

(Skyrim, Watchdogs, Brutal Legend, Assasin's Creed IV) I also LOVE the new features (especially the start menu :D) I wish i could change the boot logo at the beginning though (looks exactly like win8...sad face lol) but otherwise GREAT OS GUYS!!!)

Als when you go to windows feedback half the words are missing letters and it does the same thing when giving feedback. Finally windows explorer is acting laggy compared to what it usually is
