I clicked "add phone number" on manage how to sign in with microsoft. I then added my phone number and recieved no text. I resent the code and yet recieved no text. I restarted my phone, reset the wifi and looked at other articles with people having this problem. Nothing helped. Please don't send me the microsoft help page on this issue because that hasn't fixed the problem.

Yea, it’s some of the worst customer service ever. Can confirm if you go through your Xbox (if you have one) you don’t need a phone.

The suggestion to use the Bing app works only to get your Rewards. It doesn't help the real problem of not being able to re-add your phone number to your alias page.

I've also been in contact with support, and got no where.

It's stupidly simple to lose your phone number as an alias. I was setting up a computer for someone and used my number to get the security code. At no point was I warned that I was removing my number from my aliases and assigning it to another account. When I realized I did this, I removed the number from the new account, but have not been able to re-assign it back to my account since. That started in December of 2022. I gave up a year ago in hopes they would fix it. Fast forward to now, I tried redeeming my bing points and ran into the issues again. Another chat session with MS, with no resolution. This is beyond broke.

If someone from Microsoft Ever reads these comments...

    • My phone number is correctly associated with the SECURITY section of the account. Even your Chat support rep could see my number.
    • Removing the phone number from SECURITY and re-adding it back, works, but does not help adding the number back as an ALIAS.
    • My phone number was an alias on my account until it was removed and added to another account, WITH NO WARNING. I would have never agreed to that. This issues needs to be addressed as well.
    • Trying to add the phone number back as alias you will recieve the code but then get the message that you can't add that alias, or it will simply not work and say something along the lines of the service is unavailable.
    • I've tried to fix this on two different PCs, my iphone, as well as using Edge, and Chrome. I also tried changing the alias from the bing app. None of them worked. I don't think it has anything do with that, but that was a suggestion I got from chat support, and this thread.
