Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Not Working, In BIOS/UEFI or Windows 10 after 1803 Update

My Surface Pro 4 Keyboard with Touch is no longer being recognized by my Surface Pro 3 after updating to 1803.

I have disconnected and reconnected dozens of times.

I have cleaned my connectors on both the Surface Pro and the Keyboard unit.

I have uninstalled the keyboard in Device Manager, as well as the mouse however the only things showing up there are HID compliant Mouse and Keyboard, nothing that says Surface or Type Cover.

I have hard reset the device several times (Volume Up and Power), also booting into UEFI/BIOS several times where the keyboard also does not work.

I registered my device with Microsoft to of course be told it is Out of Warranty.

I am in the process of downloading the Recovery Image from 2015 from a trustable 3rd party website since I cannot find any links to the recovery image on Microsoft's website.  This will I think put me back in time to before the 1803 update as far as Windows is concerned, however I am not sure if that will fix my problem since it is not being recognized in the BIOS.

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

    Where I can find the Aziz's instructions?

    Hi Jullyanamadureira

    Either you follow this video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQvLAIMIgLQ&feature=youtu.be ) or the follow these steps:

    How to fix the problem with Surface Cover Type after an update ;

    Settings > Devices > Related Settings (click on Devices & Printers) > Double click on Surface Type Cover > Hardware > Select Wacom Device (to update its driver) > Click on Properties > Change properties > Drivers > Update Driver > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > (Standard) USB Input Device > Next > Ok > Ok and it's done

    It worked for me, I wish it will be the same for you. If more help needed I can make a video tutorial

    All the best

    Aziz

    Hi all,

    Notch up another user who has fixed their SP3 type cover issues by completely draining the battery. I ran it down to the point where the white battery symbol showed, then kept pressing the power button until it was unresponsive. Held the power button down for an additional minute or so to ensure that the battery was drained (did this several times). Re-attached the type cover, left it for 10-15 minutes, then attached the power cable and pressed the power button. The keyboard lights came on straight away. Typing on it now. Hopefully it is fixed for good!! Have set the power options to do nothing when I close the lid. Any other suggestions to ensure the fix holds?

    I have done this procedure at least ten times (I now have an SP4 to use). ONE TIME the keyboard lit up, worked, then the dang SP3 died for want of sufficient charge, and it is back to no keyboard for multiple subsequent attempts.

    Useless.

    I believe that an update caused the situation of our type covers no longer working.

    it isn't a specific update. it seems to be something that happens during the
    update process (and I do not know what that something is). it seems to be
    something that happens during/after a reboot from a random update. it could be
    that firmware is getting corrupted, I do not honestly know and Microsoft has
    refused to comment on "cause->effect".

    I tried the "drain the battery" technique, to no avail. Since the keyboard & trackpad don't work in the BIOS menu, I doubt that anything that reinstalls Windows 10 is going to fix anything unless it also modifies the firmware. Sad that this happens in my last few weeks of owning the Surface Pro 3 before I was going to buy a new Surface Pro (6 or 7, depending on budget). Now I'm pausing.

    Hi all

    referring to the last update 1903, related to Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Not Working after this update, I solved the problem using the procedure described in the link below:

    https://blogs.blackmarble.co.uk/adawson/2019/06/07/surface-pro-3-type-cover-not-working-after-windows-10-1903-image-applied/

    Good luck

    Aziz

    I did try this but couldn't follow all of the directions because the type cover was not even listed under devices.
