Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Not Working, In BIOS/UEFI or Windows 10 after 1803 Update

My Surface Pro 4 Keyboard with Touch is no longer being recognized by my Surface Pro 3 after updating to 1803.

I have disconnected and reconnected dozens of times.

I have cleaned my connectors on both the Surface Pro and the Keyboard unit.

I have uninstalled the keyboard in Device Manager, as well as the mouse however the only things showing up there are HID compliant Mouse and Keyboard, nothing that says Surface or Type Cover.

I have hard reset the device several times (Volume Up and Power), also booting into UEFI/BIOS several times where the keyboard also does not work.

I registered my device with Microsoft to of course be told it is Out of Warranty.

I am in the process of downloading the Recovery Image from 2015 from a trustable 3rd party website since I cannot find any links to the recovery image on Microsoft's website.  This will I think put me back in time to before the 1803 update as far as Windows is concerned, however I am not sure if that will fix my problem since it is not being recognized in the BIOS.

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue with my Surface Pro 3. Automatic update made this change that broken the Type Cover.

Not sure why but it made me change my user name.

In any event, after taking my Surface Pro 3 and keyboard to the Microsoft Store (conveniently 40 miles away) and speaking with the head technical consultant, I waited around for an hour and a half while they tried things I had tried, and went through some tech bulletins they had received regarding a similar issue with Surface Pro 4's.  They were unable to remedy the situation, and told me it would be $599 for a replacement unit that would be a Refurbished Pro 4 or Pro 5 with the same specs.

This didn't really hold water for me so I waited a few weeks to see if anyone here came up with another solution and when nobody did, I went back to the store and was lucky enough to have the store manager there.  I highly recommend speaking with the store manager about this problem.  They may have higher level information or they have broad authority to assist customers.  It took another session of troubleshooting as well as explaining the non-uniqueness of the situation (showing this thread I had started months earlier) to come to what I am calling a satisfactory conclusion.  I do not want to set a precedent for what we agreed upon, however I would strongly encourage any of you to speak with the store manager and do the same.

And if they don't treat you right, it would be a shame to have someone hanging outside their store with a sign talking about this situation on Black Friday.

It's surprising to see that so many of us have the same issue and Microsoft does nothing in terms of customer support. Please guys take it to social media using the tag #SurfaceProSucks. I'm one frustrated customer.

So it appears at least that I am not crazy.

I too had an experience at the Microsoft Store were they fiddled around with an hour and a half of my time and told me that it would be $599 for a new tablet.  $199 maybe, that's what this repair would possibly cost if anyone could/would do it.

Microsoft broke out tablets and now is offering for us to buy new ones from them?

    How is this right?

Apple wouldn't do this, and they're notorious jerks.

I bought this because the software and hardware were all made by the same group and should flawlessly work together.  They did right up until the company that made everything broke it.  I'm disgusted, and trying to find a lawyer.

Will you be please tell me, how to remove the battery ? I have read one post about draining the battery. So I tried to do it completely drain up to end of white round symbol and after confirming I lay it idle for 1 day  Thereafter I recharge battery and tried but no way it responds . Still I don't have any clue.. Frustrated. Why Microsoft did not attend such difficulty and post any link? Worldwide mass people are hesitated to turn on Microsoft products .

Thank you for your reply .
