Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Not Working, In BIOS/UEFI or Windows 10 after 1803 Update

My Surface Pro 4 Keyboard with Touch is no longer being recognized by my Surface Pro 3 after updating to 1803.

I have disconnected and reconnected dozens of times.

I have cleaned my connectors on both the Surface Pro and the Keyboard unit.

I have uninstalled the keyboard in Device Manager, as well as the mouse however the only things showing up there are HID compliant Mouse and Keyboard, nothing that says Surface or Type Cover.

I have hard reset the device several times (Volume Up and Power), also booting into UEFI/BIOS several times where the keyboard also does not work.

I registered my device with Microsoft to of course be told it is Out of Warranty.

I am in the process of downloading the Recovery Image from 2015 from a trustable 3rd party website since I cannot find any links to the recovery image on Microsoft's website.  This will I think put me back in time to before the 1803 update as far as Windows is concerned, however I am not sure if that will fix my problem since it is not being recognized in the BIOS.

Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.

Please clarify. Did it work after you started it up and then you got a firmware update, or did it start working after the firmware update? Can you give us the details of the update? There is usually a number associated with it.

    Thanks.

Had also an type cover that did not work anymore.

I tied almost every work-around without having success.

Last try yesterday was draining the battery completely (if the white battery symbol appears continue with pushing the Power Button so often till nothing occures anymore).

I left the type cover seperated for one night from the surface.

On the next day I connected both and waited 15min. After booting the type cover worked again AND a firmware update for the type cover was surpriselingy downloaded!!!!

At the Moment it works properly (also after shutdown).

I won't know more until I go to a physical Microsoft store. The nearest one to me is over 4 hours away so I'm not sure when that will be.

call the Store before you go. the SP3 is discontinued and there may not be a
cheap refurb replacement. the last published price before they discontinued was
$599 (which is way too much).

I agree with SzRobots that it is a firmware issue.

I called Microsoft because I wanted to send my SP3 in for repair. They told me SP3 is too old and is discontinued and is therefore not repairable. The person I spoke to said it was a hardware issue in my SP3 (because I told him that my SP3 typecover works on my SP1 but not on my SP3).

I do not know for sure, of course, but I doubt that it is a hardware issue. My SP3 is in perfect shape and has always been treated with great care. Other that this typecover issue it works very well.

It appears right now that my solution is to bring it into a Microsoft store and that they will "repair" it by replacing it with a new SP. It might be a 3 or a 4 or a 5 depending on what the store has in stock. I won't know more until I go to a physical Microsoft store. The nearest one to me is over 4 hours away so I'm not sure when that will be.

It is a shame though that such a nice machine is unrepairable.

I have a Surface Pro 3 - it was sitting on the shelf for months, turned it on and it did a bunch of updates.  After they had all finished the type cover didn't work - even in BIOS it is dead.

It's been like this for a long time but I found a spare Surface Pro 3 Type Cover in work and tried that - exact same issue.

I tried all solution posted here - nothing works. This is a Firmware issue.
