Surface Pen or Multi-touch not working after Fall Creators update is installed on Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book

After installing the new fall creator update, my surface pro 4 pen no longer writes, erases or interacts with the screen at all. All the buttons function normally. I used the Microsoft diagnostic trouble tree which had me replace batteries re-install the device, which did nothing. Is anyone else having this issue after the Fall Creator update installed, and if so do you have a solution? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

Today, we released an update to the Intel® Precise Touch driver (Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99). This driver resolves an issue where after Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book wakes from sleep, the touch driver will no longer respond to multi-touch input (like pinch to zoom) or the pen does not write.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

    I am having this issue on my Surface Book.  I have had similar issues previously but it might only happen every few weeks.  Now it happens multiple times and day.....probably because I regularly move between meetings and go into hibernate in between.  Very annoying!

    Thanks for the advice on enable and re-enable of the Touch Device.  It did work.

    Very big shame about this bug since I have generally been very happy with my Surface Book.  Over time I have found that I have become heavily dependent on the pen and going back to using the track pad is a nightmare.  Please put a fix for this on turbo charge MS.  I will use Feedback Hub App to submit logs as requested to assist with debugging.

    As you know it is related to the Intel Precise touch device driver and specifically to the option of turn this off to save power. I disabled this option from the power management tab and the problem seems to be resolved, now the pitching and the pen never stop working. Of course this shouldn’t be the real solution and Microsoft you fix the driver but for now it is the best we can do.

    To get to this option you guys need to go to Device Manager -> Human Interface Devices -> (double click) Intel Precise Touch Device -> Power management -> uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power”
