Surface Pro 2.5 i5 4300U 1.9 Ghz 2.5 Ghz

I am not an IT guy.  Did Microsoft release a Surface Pro 2.5?

I returned my Surface Pro 2 (v. 256GB) because of the poor performance after the failed12.10.13 firmware update. I recall the SP2 I returned having a i5 4200U processor.

To my surprise, when I checked the System Properties in the Control Panel on my replacement SP2, the processor was upgraded to a i5 4300U @ 1.9Ghz. - 2.5 Ghz.

Perhaps this is old news. Can anyone explain this change or know of any other improvements? Thank you.

Hey Guy and anyone else with the new SP2,

On the box, there should be a sticker that features the lot #. What lot # do you have? This will give us an idea of which boxes contain the new SP2.

hello Phil IP how do I check with the LOT NO. which processor I have. I have an unopened surface pro 2 that I would rather return unopened if its the older 4200 processor.

The lot number is on the bottom thin side of the box clearly labelled as the lot number. So far, it seems that lot number 1350 and higher (eg. 1351, 1352, and a possible 1401 - lot number is just the 2 digits of the year and week number) are the new processors.

See the following thread for details:

Hey Guys just a quick update. Based off some peoples luck in this thread and others I felt it safe to open my surface pro 2 with lot number 1350.

However to my dismay it contained the 4200 processor. So if you have a 1350 and havent opened it yet, I would recommend returning it for a high lot number.

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to add to the list of Surface Pro 2 that have the 4300u processor.  I just recently bought a SP2 128gb version last Saturday 01-04-14 at Best Buy with the following numbers on the box:

    Model No. : 1601

    UPC : 88537065869

    6CX-00001

    Lot No. / Date 1350

I really want the 256gb version and found several online for really decent prices second hand but now will steer clear from them since this new information has come out.

    Hello Semapi,

I just purchased my surface pro 2 yesterday from bestbuy and I have the same model number and UPC code. However my LOT NO. is different, min is 1350. I do not want to open it if its the older processor because I would rather just return it since I havent opened it and wait till they receive shipment of the new one.

Do you know if mine contains the new 4300 processor?

    Sorry Osman, no idea....
