Surface 2 Speaker/Sound Problems

I just purchased two new Surface 2's and I am noticing a significant reduction in volume from the speakers compared to my old Surface RT.  The speakers also lack any kind of bass.  They are very "tinny" and shallow sounding.  When using headphones, there is plenty of bass sound and the volume level is not an issue.

I am also experienceing a significant amount of sound crackling (from the speakers and attached headphones) when streaming video from Amazon Instant Video using both the desktop and metro versions of IE.  I do not experience this crackling problem with other sound sources like Xbox music, gaming, or other website streaming video (i.e. YouTube).

Since I was experiencing this on two different Surface 2's, it seems unlikely that this is a hardware issue.  This is most likely a software/driver issue.  Is there anything that I can do to resolve this problem, other than wait for a possible software or firmware update?

Thanks.

I had the same problem. I went through the chat help and they uninstalled and reinstalled drivers. Now I have NO sound. Nobody at Microsoft is helping me. I'm not a techie...I'm a mom trying to do online classes with no sound. I would love it if somebody at Microsoft would either replace the device or give me my money back because I do not have time to troubleshoot and fix this myself. And its too late to return it...ugh. So frustrated!

Do not panic, in the start screen, slide your finger from right to left in your right side. In the Charm, select settings at the bottom of the charm. Then click on change menu setting. Under PC Settings click on Update and Recovery. There Click the option Recovery, and then Refresh, Get Started, which is the first option. After that just follow the Wizard accepting the changes. The system will refresh Windows no touching any of your files.

I just spoke to the chat support because there was an issue with my replacement being shipped (fingers crossed for that surface to work correctly).  He had to have help from his supervisor so I said to him that while we have his supervisor's attention, it would be very appreciated for him to have a look and escalate the issue we are having and I provided him with the link to here.

I'm not really counting on this to help at all but we never know!

I'll let you all know how the replacement is working for me once it arrives (should be by friday)

i also got the 10/22 systemhardware update today. And i can install 10/13 sound driver.

    10/23 cannot be installed.

But with 10/13 driver, my mic doesn't work. It just sound very robotic. I can't understand a single word...

mic was fine with 8/14 driver and 10/23 before refresh.

Did anyone else noticed a very robotic mic sound? you can test it through audio recorder.

    I don't have the 10/22 but I have the 11/12 😐

I guess try uninstalling the device and the codec and see what happens... something changed for me last night.
