Surface Book 3 - external keyboard and mouse

I have a SB3 connected to a Surface Dock which has FullHD touch monitor, USB keyboard and mouse connected to it.  I have used this setup without any issues for over 2 years with Surface Laptop 1.

With the SB3 the keyboard and mouse 'stutter' meaning characters are lost or autorepeat due to missing down or up codes.  Mouse motion ceases then resumes.

I have a video of the mouse re I continuously move the mouse in a circle

I have tried plugging the mouse into one of the SB3 USB ports and get the same result.

I know others have seen this problem.  It should be easy to reproduce.  Can someone from Microsoft try this please.

This looks to be a level USB message handling problem. Note that the USB is not unloading.

A fix for this issue is now available through Windows Update. Please review the Surface Book 3 Update History page.

    Hi Karl,

Same here, usually MS apps like Outlook etc. I can type something then the keystrokes stop, mouse clicks appear to be ignored and then after some time the buffers empty.  No keystrokes are lost but really annoying.  Also CPU speed drops occasionally to 0.19GHz, crawls for a minute or so then picks up.

    Are you seeing that?

    David

    Many Thanks Eddy,

looks it works from repeat-typing perspective. Finally I can use.

But now I am getting experience with delay when I am writting.

Delay is really significant! It's few minutes experience and it's gone....a and back after few minutes. Occasionally.

Usually help switch between window apps and it's gone.

(Less annoying than repeat-typing, but still... You understand, I am sure.)

Can confirm that after joining the windows insider programme and installing updates (only took ~15 minutes for me) that the stutters from my peripherals have stopped.

I have also downloaded razer synapse which made the disconnects 100x worse before and no isses so far either.

I have only used it for about 10 minutes so i will update in a few days.

    Hi,

just to give feedback about this. Had the same issue.

After reading your info, I switched to "Insider Release Preview". After installing the Surface Firmware Update and the new Windows Version, the "stutter" / "freeze" seems completely gone. Works!

Be aware, if you only install the Firmware update without the Windows update, your USB-A Ports will not work until the Windows Version Update is completed. The spec of the USB Controller seems to change with the new Firmware. But as already noted: If you update both everything works just fine.

    Thank you very much!

    Hans-Carl
