Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working

I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.

I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.

If anyone come across, this, please help.

I ran my surface flat, left it flat for a couple of weeks, charged it up and installed latest updates when prompted.

I also disabled BitLocker since it came up with some error and I figured I was better off without it.

Since then the type-cover has worked, so far for 2 days, even after a shutdown & restart.

    Hopefully it stays working.

I took my Surface Pro 4 to the Microsoft store after trying numerous things to fix the type cover issue. Things to note:

    1. When the type cover was attached it would light up but the track pad and keyboard inputs would not work.
    2. When attaching my type cover to my friend’s Surface Pro 4 it worked fine.
    3. When I attached my friend’s type cover (that was working on their Surface Pro 4) on my Surface Pro 4 it didn’t work but it did light up.
    4. After troubleshooting at the Microsoft Store (where they even reimaged my Surface Pro 4) their best answer was to buy the refurbished SP4 for $500 or get a bluetooth keyboard.
    5. This is where it got interesting...the MS store employees determined that my USB bus was somehow broken/failed based on attaching a USB mouse and a USB keyboard which did not work. However, if you inserted a USB key drive it did work.

I am still not convinced this is hardware. I sincerely believe that the MS Store Employees were stumped and thus blamed the USB components despite me calling out the USB Key drive working.

I've also tried the USB recovery method but my Surface Pro 4 is still not recognising any type covers.

I've got a new type cover on my surface (it was covered under my extended warranty). I daren't detach it and I also log out and switch off every time I've had it in tablet mode, as sometimes when I've unfolded it back into laptop mode the keyboard doesn't respond.  I imagine MS doesn't comment on the problem because there's nothing they can/want to do about it.  Is it a problem with the surface, or the type cover?  Who knows?  And they're not going to prise apart the surface to find out, I imagine that would do more harm.
