Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working

I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.

I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.

If anyone come across, this, please help.

After months of wasting my time trying to persuade my type cover to work I gave up. I bought this instead, and although it is early days, I am happy to have my Surface Pro 3 back again.

Thanks for this suggestion, I'll consider that option as well.

(But before anything else, after the problems I caused myself this evening, I'm going to get on with my regular weekly data backup!)

I have disabled or paused the anti virus protection until the install is done and that would be enough to let it finish. If not you would need to uninstall it and put it back on after the update. I have also seen Avast be misidentified as AVG before

    Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried that first, but kept getting the same message, so eventually uninstalled it.

Then tied myself in knots - see other reply - but eventually untied them and am now back where I started.

The bluetooth keyboard that ColinLow1 has recommended is looking attractive.

I have a logitech bluetooth keyboard, but it's too big and large to carry around with the Surface.

    I use Avast antivirus.

did you try uninstalling Avast? Windows Defender will protect you.

    Thanks for suggestion.

Uninstalled Avast, but error message to uninstall or update AVG persisted.

I decided to re-install AVG (I'd had it before) and uninstall again... just in case uninstall prior to loading Avast hadn't completed properly.

I downloaded the setup files, but they wouldn't install, so I decided to re-use my setup file from earlier - big mistake!  Clearly incompatible with current W10 on my Surface and it wouldn't start up again.

Eventually managed a "restore" to an earlier point and I'm back to where I was.

I spent a huge amount of money on my Surface ( i7, 8 gigs etc) and I simply can't afford to splash out that kind of money again.
