Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working

I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.

I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.

If anyone come across, this, please help.

    Some updates:

I just had my Type Cover driver disappearing again with my Surface Pro 4.

Same as previously - nothing helped until I whipped out my old Type Cover and connected that - voila it did again the trick and re-installed the driver and both type covers work again.

I have not seen this on my Surface Pro 3 or Surface Pro 6 - both are using the same type cover (the grey alcantara one).

The Surface Pro 4 worked just fine for a few months - with carrying around detaching the cover a few times, hibernating etc.

So -  whatever happened with the latest updates (I got already build 1903 on all my Surfaces) the issue re-appeared.

I don't know what I would have done without my old type cover that seems to "reset" the connection and gets the driver installed again.

    Hope this helps someone....

    Cheers,

    Ralf

Ok, so the type cover is now working in the 'normal' position.  I had just switched the surface on again, so I don't know if there was a quick update happening or if the physical connections have just decided to behave for a change...   I'm almost afraid to turn the surface off again.  I've changed the power settings so the screen will turn off but the computer won't go to sleep.  Will that be any use...?

Forgot to mention, Device Manager now once again shows "Surface Type Cover Filter Device" under Keyboards.

    Well, this is weird.

By fluke I discovered that my type cover is now working but not in the normal position.  I'm sitting with it on my lap, and I want to watch a film, so I turned the cover back to use as a stand.  But I couldn't log in via the on-screen keyboard - there was no response when I tapped on the login box.

I wondered if that meant the type cover was 'connecting' again.  (It hadn't worked a few moments earlier when I attempted to use it to type my login.)

So I gingerly started moving it back towards the normal position, and the keys lit up!

So here I am typing this via the type cover, but it's only barely half-way back towards the normal typing position.  (I wish I could send a pic, not really good a describing these things...)

I'm almost afraid to move it about, but I'll complete this message and then experiment, and post again if there's anything interesting.

That sucks. I had hoped to try the update today.

The fact that it worked briefly is interesting data - it suggests that problem might not be hardware in the Surface, and is software (as most of us have always believed anyway).

    Thanks

Yes, I also believe it's the software and the solution lies with Microsoft as there's absolutely nothing the users can do about it.  And that's not for want of trying either!

    Hey All!

Thanks for passing the puck around!

Hopefully MS will get their Community Service done and resume Customer Service!
