Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working

I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc.

I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable.

If anyone come across, this, please help.

    Have you tried:

    1. Go into the BIOS, power and volume up button.
    2. Turn off the type cover port.
    3. Reboot to Bios and enable the type cover port.

    This worked for me.

    Still not working? Troubleshoot.

    If that does not work: Turn off filter keys.

    Last resort: Run the troubleshooter.

    Having the same issue on my Surface Pro 4.

    The type cover now works only in UEFI interface, and immediately stops working when it goes to Windows.

    Although having no direct evidence, I think it is because of the 2018 September update, since the problem emerged after installing the update.

    I have Tried everything that one can try, so MS representative please don't waste both your time and my time in providing useless answers:

    • I have reinstalled all drivers, and no luck;
    • I have tried the 2 key (power + volumn) solution, and no luck;
    • I have reset the machine without erasing personal files, and no luck;
    • I have tried an entire factory reset which erases all personal files, and no luck;
    • I brought the machine to a MircoSoft store: the technician tried all items on his checklist (~30 minutes), and no luck;

      - yes he tried using another new type cover, and no luck;

      - I showed him that the type cover works in UEFI but he was not able to bring up any solution based on this clue.

    Don't suggest me to buy a new one. Yes my current machine is out of warranty but the hardware seems all good. It is very probable that it is your stupid update bricked my machine.

    The keyboard cover of my SP4 stopped working on 14 September 2018 IMMEDIATELY AFTER a Windows update.

    That day, I initially turned the device on... keyboard working.... I manually clicked 'Install Updates' and watched it install firmware and a few patches.... the keyboard no longer works.

    This is definitely NOT a hardware fault - unless Microsoft are saying that our devices are running older hardware which is no longer supported?

    Or, playing devil's advocate here, is it a ruse to generate revenue by making devices appear to be defective?

    I will add, that there is no device driver listed in Device Manager for the cover keyboard.

    Location: Australia.

    Remedial Actions: As per many suggestions, hard reset, running diagnostic tools, reloading drivers from MS Website etc.

    Although I am an I.T. expert with more than 20 years of experience under my belt, I spent an hour with a Microsoft technician on the phone, trying everything except the USB re-install, and nothing worked. Below is the list of updates that stopped the Type Cover working.
