Surface Pro 4 Jul 2017 Update - Type Cover not working

I updated the latest update Jul 2017 and it bricks my type cover completely. Tried everthing, from reset, volume + and power, everthing including cleaning etc. 

I just do not understand. When I did Apr 2017 update, it also half bricked it, but at least using volume+ and power helps, but now totally unusable. 

If anyone come across, this, please help.

    It is the same with surface pro 3: 

    Standby kills the keyboard, sometimes shutdowns as well.

    There seems to be some connection with power. The only times i managed to get it running again was after plugging it into the powersource for a long time (although the battery is already full).

    Then, and only then it sometimes works again. Till the next standby / shutdown .

    I did probably hundreds of reboots, latest firmware install / uninstall, booting with keyboard, booting without it and plugging it in when windows bootet etc.etc.

    This topic makes me mad. 

     Microsoft forgot how important a keyboard is. This, with one of its most important devices.

    Also the surface pro 3 looses a full battery charge when it is turned OFF (no connected standby used) within a night.

    Looking for professional tools? Check elsewhere. 

    I am done with MS Hardware.

    Unfortunately... hold the celebrating...

    After the power draining stunt it worked for a few days. It was fine shutting down, but then it was confronted with a child playing a game and then not shutting the thing down properly afterwards. So there is definitely a link between sleep and this issue.

    Then it died again, and this time no amount of power draining seems to be helping. I think the fact that it started working was just a fluke. I got it working one subsequent time after a two finger salute, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to when it works (and most of the time it does not).

    I have also ordered a Bluetooth keyboard (Moko) from Amazon. Life's too short...

    Ok, so after spending an evening with an errant Surface Pro 4 here is another variation which got my keyboard working again. Maybe it'll help people.

    My situation was that the keyboard hardware was not being seen in any way at all. The keyboard was not usable in UEFI, in Windows the drivers were showing that the hardware was not connected to the system. I tried all the obvious stuff, i.e. toggling the touch cover setting in UEFI, applying various combinations holding down the power button plus the two finger salute (power+volume up), all the same old stuff everyone's seen on the forums and around t'interwebs. I got nowhere.

    Here is what finally worked for me:

    First, I ran the battery down to zero. Not 3% where it hibernates. I literally kicked the living proverbial out of the battery. I created a power profile that was set to never shut down, never hibernate, low and critical battery warnings set as low as possible (2 and 1%), set the action on critical battery to nothing, set the brightness on max. I then plugged in a USB hub to which I attached an external hard drive, two Raspberry Pis, two wifi dongles and a phone. I then loaded up a particularly processor intensive game and left the whole thing running on the battery two hours or so.

    I came back to a black screen and a complete and utter refusal to display anything when I powered on (even the low battery indicator). I then plugged the device into the mains and applied the two finger salute (power+volume up) to go into UEFI. And, lo and behold, the keyboard and trackpad worked in UEFI mode. It booted into Windows, the drivers reinstalled, and then all was right with the world.

    So, the TL;DR version:

    1. Run the battery down so low it doesn't even have the power to display the low battery screen on pressing the power on button.
    2. Plug the device in.
    3. Boot into UEFI mode and (hopefully) keyboard and trackpad should work there.
    4. Boot into Windows and (hopefully) any missing drivers will sort themselves out and keyboard and trackpad will work there.
    5. Party like it's 1999!

    Hope this saves someone else a sleepless night.

    Will try that, but what happens when you close the surface pro and it goes back to sleep, does it recognize afterwards also.

    I on the other hand ordered a Bluetooth keyboard from Amazon, backlit with a lot of colours, working fine for me, although the trackpad is not as good as the typecover, but still works just fine. Its magnetic and can be recharged, and fixes itself to the surface pro just like the typecover.

    I think this is the best option for a lot of people in here.

    Had high expectations from MS, and sorry to say, they let me down BiG Time...

    I've already been experiencing this issue for the last 3 months with my SP 3. I've tried some workarounds but found no luck. Last time I did a full reset, it did work but after another insider update (slow ring) it's not been working anymore. I can only reduce/increase its backlight, swap with another type cover also doesn't help. Please help, Microsoft.
