Surface Dock keeps disconnecting/reconnecting USB devices with Surface Book 2

Hi 

I just bought a Surface Book 2 and a surface dock.

The dock is connected to 2 monitors and USB keyboard (Razer Huntsman Elite) and mouse Razer Hyperflux Mamba/Firefly.

Both keep disconnecting/reconnecting randomly. Mostly when running games, but sometimes also when running office application.

I have reinstalled the Surface Dock Firmware updater but it doesn't help.

I have done the latest updates, but it doesn't help either.

I cannot find much info in the event viewer, but SurfaceDockFwUpdate errors (event ID 2005 2006 and 2007).

Any ideas where this could come from?

This is becoming ridiculous, it sometimes disconnects every 5-10 sec.

    I echo the issues.  I have isolated this to the Windows Application events for SurfaceDockFwUpdate.  It seems to fire randomly throughout the day. When it does, the error event 2006 causes all of the USB ports and ethernet port to disconnect, then reconnect. Interesting that the display port does not disconnect during this event.

    Ironically, my old Surface Pro didn't have these issues. Its my brand new Surface Book 2, that does.

    I would simply like the ability to prevent that SurfaceDockFwUpdate event from running.  

    Are there instructions for disabling this event/process from running?

    Alex,

    I had this same issue on my surface pro 7 with the surface dock. Any iPhone or iPad or Android phone which was drawing power from the USB port kept disconnecting and re-connecting again. Extremely irritating for the last 2 months.

    Today I disabled all USB controllers and then uninstalled them. Where the OS asked, if I wanted to delete the driver, I selected yes. In particular I had an entry for "Standard USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller". Once uninstalled, i was asked to reboot. 

    Its been a number of hours since having all devices including my headset, mobile, keyboard, iPad and monitor connected with no issues at all.

    Give this a go. The funny thing is the particular controller mentioned above didnt re-install itself post reboot and all seems well.

    Same problem, with the latest firmware downloaded from Microsoft. There is no mistake it's an issue, it's getting worse recently.

    I just got a pen drive to mirror a backup drive permanently connected to dock. When I started robocopy in multithreaded mode in a minute both drives were momentary diconnected/reconnected. And that repeated reliably few times.

    After that I removed /mt (multithreaded) option, and mirroring was proceeding without an accident. Then I tried plugging backup drive into the port on surface book itself. In this setting the multithreaded copy also proceeds without problem.

    So it seems  that the problem can be caused by high usage of USB bandwidth.

    Immy - thanks for that advice. I was told by MS that this was a specifc problem with my Surface laptop, but all these posts like yours prove that it wasn't. When i get my Surface back, atleast i now how to solve it now!
