Surface Pro 7 and Slim Pen Stop working

I just recently purchased the Surface Pro 7 and Slim pen. I am on the third one as I have returned them and gotten a new one due to the touch screen not working. It works fine for a little while then in the middle of editing pictures or using the slim pen the touch screen and pen both stop working. I have done all of the suggested tips (Uninstalling drivers, reinstalling them, etc) and after restarting the Surface Pro 7 they work for awhile and then I'm back to having to restart to get them to work again. I am assuming now it is something with the surface slim pen interfering with the touch screen since I have been through three Pro 7s and not all of them can be messed up. Is there a way to fix this permanently without having to constantly restart my device?

I am a professional photographer and this is seriously messing with my work flow. I can not keep restarting my device every 15 to 30 minutes to get the screen and pen working again. My next step is to return both items and switch completely away from the Surfaces. I don't want to as I have had my Surface Pro 3 for years and love it but it crashed and I had to upgrade. Can anyone tell me what to try to get this issue corrected?

    I'm having the same issues Best Buy Geek Squad said they replaced the surface but I'm still having the same problems. luckily I was able to dig up an old mouse, because Best Buy didn't return. my keyboard.

    Thus is so frustrating, I started using a Mac almost 10 years now because windows does didn't work right now when I see the surface and all the features it has for all this creativity and I was so excited and here I am regretting the worst decision of 2020.

    Thanks for reaching out Microsoft Community and posting your concern here. We're sorry to learn that you're having an issue with your device and pen.

    In this case, if you think the pen is interfering the touchscreen functionality of your device, I'd suggest to adjust or calibrate the pressure settings of your pen. To check your cursor, handwriting, and top button settings, go to **Start  > Settings  > Devices  > Pen & Windows Ink.**To check your pen pressure settings, open the Surface app and select the Pen tab to adjust it. Adjust and calibrate your pen at your own preference and after, observe how the touchscreen behaves.

    [SOLUTION]

    At least for my case.

    I had similar issues and fixed it with the following:

    MS released a new Firmware Patch for the Surface Pro7.

    I uninstalled the Pen-driver in the Firmware in the DeviceManager and

    the Driver under the Human-Interface category.

    (Keep your device offline to prevent automatic re-installation in between.)

    After this restart and let Windows reinstall the drivers (this happens automaticly as soon as you reconnect to the internet)

    Now Download the Newest Firmware Driver from the website.

    After the installation restart and turn on Bluetooth.

    Now reconnect your Surface Pen.

    In the Bluetooth-Device-List should be only one Pen visible, if you still see 2 Pens, pls. check if you did the above steps correctly.

    At least, I can prove this fix for the Pro7.

    Even I had similar issue with Slim pen and now issue ressolved after pen exchange. 

    Issue root cause: (My surface)

    1. When you connect slim pen you will find multiple bluetooth pen devices in your bluetooth list with slimpen name and generic name. (More than 4 devices).
    2. Slimpen stops working when all or multiple devices try to communicate with same device drivers.which makes touch driver to crash.

    Resolution: With my slimpen.

    Microsoft replaced my slim pen .

    what I observed is no. of bluetooth pen devices decreased to 2 (only slimpen).

    I think you will encounter issue only when bluetooth show more pen devices.  (Even if you connect single slim pen)

    I was at the stage of looking for a 'normal' pen to use rather than slim - but you really shouldn't have to. Dare i say it's not fit for purpose.
