Surface Pro 7 Overheating when charging

So I've purchased and exchanged 3 brand new surface pro 7s in the last 20 days from best buy because of this issue. Everytime I plugged in the charger, within 5 mins, the backside of the Surface pro 7 starts overheating to an uncomfortable temperature. This was the case for the last 2 Surface Pro 7s as well. Their respective lot number was 1945 and 1943. I'm beginning to wonder if this is an issue with this particular batch ... Is there any answers for this?

    I have the same problem. When connected to a charger my Surface Pro 7 (i5) overheats and starts to throttle as much as even simple games as Minecraft become unplayable.

    Microsoft, is it still your position that there is no known overheating issue with the Surface Pro 7 as you said at the start of this thread 12 pages back?

    I have a brand new Surface Pro 7 that has this issue. I did the initial set-up and the only thing I downloaded was Microsoft Office. I plugged it in last night to charge up and it was so hot to the touch that I couldn't keep my hand on it for long. In addition, it would not power up due to the overheating. I let it sit for over 30 minutes and it was still so hot it wouldn't power up. I set it in front of a running fan for 10 minutes and it would finally respond to the power button. However, it came up and showed a very low battery charge, lower than when I had plugged it in.

    This is unsafe and unsatisfactory. This is not normal and the sheer number of replies on this thread show it to be a real issue that needs addressed. This is a $1,000 brick right now. What is Microsoft's solution?

    Having the same issue...ran all updates and the Surface Diagnostic Tool.

    Using Core Temp 1.15.1 software, found that my CPU temperature raises approximately 10 degree Celsius when plugged in...

    Is there an official solution from Microsoft on this wide-spread, on-going issue?

    Dear Marion,

    I face same issues. 5-10 minutes after starting a Zoom\Skype\Team meeting Surface pro 7 get extremely hot which makes it work very slow.

    5-10 minutes after closing Zoom\Skype\Team app the Surface will slowly cool down and get working normally again.

    The suggested steps you mention didn't make any difference.

    Replacing my charger didn't help either.

    Talking to a Microsoft helpdesk didn't help either.

    To be honest:

    This is so frustrating and it makes me tell people to avoid purchasing Surface.

    Hopefully it can be solved somehow...

    I have an issue with lot #1866 that is only 1 month old.  If plugged in it usually gets so hot you don't want to touch it.  I have also been getting the blue STOP screens to the point you cannot restart the computer until it is fully cooled.  I am fairly confident this is a failure in the charge protection circuitry for the battery.  Taking the computer to Microsoft today.
