Windows 11 22H2 held back on Surface Pro 8?

Hi,

[Surface Pro 8 currently on stable build of Windows 11 21H2 (22000.1042)]

I recently installed 22H2 on my desktop, and it went just like expected.

However, my Surface Pro 8 doesn't want to install it.

All methods for installing it are not possible (except for a straight clean install from an installation media, which I haven't tried yet.)

ISO, Windows Update, and the installation assistant are not installing it, saying something about my settings being "incompatible". (Roughly translated from German.)

This even happened after a complete reset with the recovery drive, so I doubt it's my settings... Also, I noticed a couple other people having the same problem on reddit etc.

Now, I did run the insider versions of 22H2, and even the most recent DEV builds on the SP8, without issues (well, aside from the usual insider issues...) but lately even the option to install a beta build is not available (most likely since that's the same build that is 22H2.)

So my questions are:

What is the core issue that currently exists, that causes MS to hold back the update?

Is there a way to install it anyway? (I tried the group policy to disable protections on feature updates, still won't work.)

Any info would be appreciated!

Posts seem to verify that updates are staggered and are not necessarily deployed simultaneously to all machines. I perceived certain prerequisites such as cumulative updates (which may also be delayed) and even store updates needed purging before system stabilities and conditions were met for the offer of the large 22H2 pack (it did take most of an hour to go in). Can only suggest to others patience, manually purging all update areas and a system file check (admin command prompt sfc/ scannow to ensure your system has no pre corruption).

Just checked Windows update and the hold has now officially been released! Windows 11 22H is finally downloading as I write and being deployed to my Surface Pro 8 i7 32Gb.

All looks good so far. If it doesn't install, I'll continue the thread, but pleased that it has simultaneously met with the new Surface Pro 9 release, so all is well.

    Hi Dave,

    of course I did everything you've mentioned, but it changes nothing. I did it many times. I think it looks very weird to have MS hardware and to exchange opinions have to get an update for the OS delivered by the same company MS. It's a shame of them. Simple as that. But anyway, thanks for your hint.

    Did you try running sfc /scannow from an elevated cmd prompt? That's what worked for me in what sounds like the same situation - use Hello, drivers up-to-date, and other Windows updates installing as expected.

    They are. I also got the regular monthly cummulative updates for the 21H2 version of Windows. I am using the facial recognition of Windows Hello and tried almost everything already. Updated all available drivers through the Intel Driver & Support Assistent. Nothing special about my system.
