Battery Drains While Shutdown

I have read many posts and made many attempts to correct this problem without any success.

I was traveling for 3 months and when I returned the battery was completely dead.

Also, each night since my return, the battery drains as much as 12% overnight while shutdown.

I have all MS updates but the problem continues.

Please advise.

    Guessing this is never going to be solved now. At this juncture it's is obvious that us Surface Pro 4 owners are now dumped in a legacy hardware category with Microsoft diverting precisely zero resources into this issue despite it having been ongoing for years. It is a lesson learned.

    I've moved on to a compact Dell notebook.  And now to deal with the mess when when I had to upgrade my other computer from Win 7  to Win 10 recently... that's another story.  Sure wish someone would make a Linux version that is easier to use... would like to divorce myself from Microsoft entirely, but going to Apple doesn't look any better to me. Thanks for nothing, Microsoft.

    I only used my SP4 a number of times when I noticed the battery draining power when the device was shut down. I took it back to Microsoft and they replaced it with a reconditioned one. The issue continues with the replacement device. This will be the last time I purchase a Microsoft device. I will be recommending to family and friends not to purchase devices from Microsoft.

    Thank you for your thoughts 

    I have tried your idea many time - I just do it out of habit now lol

    It doesn't make any difference to the battery leakage for me.

    I even went through a stage of detaching the keyboard before shutting down. Turning off the docking port and other ports in the BIOS settings - just to see if they were the problem of leakage - full deep dive on this issue.

    hi Guys... try this :-

    When you shutdown your surface pro, keep an eye on the keyboard back light, and don't close the machine till that light is ON.

    What I figured that even though the screen looks like the machine is shutdown, it does not until about 2-3 mins of screen getting OFF. So hold on packing your machine until the keyboard backlight is gone completely. If you do that the machine doesn't leak any battery. At least this has been working perfectly fine for me.

    Just make sure to tap on keyboard to make sure the backlight is gone completely, because the backlight timesout as well and it may look like that backlight is gone completely. so press keys to be sure.4
