Surface Pro 4, Screen Flickering, Shaking

I purchased SP4 device a few months ago and it was working fine for a month. Then I noticed that when the CPU is at its max, the screen flickers a bit. Investigating further revealed that it flickers even if it is setting idle. It does not flicker if at least one of the following thing is done:

  1. A video being played in browser 
  2. If I keep the touch screen busy by either taping it or keeping a finger on it
  3. If I use the touchpad
  4. If keyboard is used for typing

This resulted in making the device completely unusable while reading articles or ebooks. I am a developer, most of the time I have to read the code and to do that, I have to constantly keep a finger on the touch pad or the screen. I contacted surface support in October and November and was told that the developers are working on the patch. Looking at the updates the developers are pushing since then, I don't think anyone is even aware of the problem there.

Just wondering if anyone else had the same problem (and the fix) and if not, what's the procedure for the refund? I will rather go for a mac then sacrificing $2000+ for a dancing screen.

    Hi, my surface pro 4 was also suffering from screen flickering, and I have sent it for warranty claim. Has anybody with this issue tried to connect it to the TV/monitor? Did the TV/monitor screen flicker too? 

    I'm deciding between selling the refurbished Surface and getting a new laptop or use the refurbished Surface until 1 day screen flickers again, buy a monitor and use as a desktop, if that's possible

    The last update is 2018-02 Cumulative Update For Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based System KB4090913 and was downloaded today through the normal Windows Update in 'Settings'

    Hi Des,

    Microsoft site says last updates for the Surface Pro 4 were on 10th Jan 2018. Could you confirm the update version and provide a link if possible????

    Colleagues in Strife

    Microsoft pushed an update for the video driver a few hours ago. I installed and put my SP4 in a mode where the problem shows up - using a power point presentation on the screen where the clock and animated cursor are hidden. It usually displays the symptoms after a few minutes but it has been running now for 4 hours straight with no problem. For some reason the I had to force the update when it arrived - it failed to install on its own. Crossing fingers that this holds out. 

    Can you give us any details of that update please?
