Surface Pro 4, Screen Flickering, Shaking

I purchased SP4 device a few months ago and it was working fine for a month. Then I noticed that when the CPU is at its max, the screen flickers a bit. Investigating further revealed that it flickers even if it is setting idle. It does not flicker if at least one of the following thing is done:

  1. A video being played in browser 
  2. If I keep the touch screen busy by either taping it or keeping a finger on it
  3. If I use the touchpad
  4. If keyboard is used for typing

This resulted in making the device completely unusable while reading articles or ebooks. I am a developer, most of the time I have to read the code and to do that, I have to constantly keep a finger on the touch pad or the screen. I contacted surface support in October and November and was told that the developers are working on the patch. Looking at the updates the developers are pushing since then, I don't think anyone is even aware of the problem there.

Just wondering if anyone else had the same problem (and the fix) and if not, what's the procedure for the refund? I will rather go for a mac then sacrificing $2000+ for a dancing screen.

    Hey Jay,

    I tried that half a year ago but it only worked for like a week and the goddamn flickering came back again.

    Seems that there is no long-term solution for this issue. Seriously like what on earth are MS engineers even doing?

    Hey MS,

    You guys have been working on this issue for almost a year. Not a single fix ever worked and you are busy promoting Surface Book 2? What if Surface Book 2 share the same issue with SP4? How would we users ever buy your new laptops if you cant fix an issue for almost 1 year?

    I've suffered this screen flickering for more than 1.5 years without complaining. I didnt buy a new laptop because I had faith in your brand. I believed u guys could solve it but ended up getting super depressed by u MS. I will buy a new laptop soon and will not touch any MS laptop from now on. Im at my limit. Any other issue would be fine, but screen flickering has been making it impossible to operate anything.

    Glad that so many people voice out this major problem of SP4. I bought it in the mid of last year and the flickering issue came in early this year when I was doing my thesis. It seriously affected my work and delayed my progress. I never thought this flagship product by a branded company has such a serious issue and there's no serious action taken upon it.

    Once again, MS has let me down. Will never support MS product again.
