This actually happpens to me. Attaching Type cover causes the surface 1 to reboot.
Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed
I just noticed this recently but sometimes I get a Random reboot not even doing anything particular. I also noticed twice that when I attached my Type Cover 2 it reboots. Example I attached it and the SURFACE logo shows and it boots up.
Anyone else experiencing this.?

2015-10-25T19:48:39+00:00 Rick,
Thank you! I never knew about this mode, though I had a suspicion after seeing the battery run down even with a regular shutdown in the past. I've tried a decent amount to cause another keyboard reboot since trying this and have yet to see any issues. You've made this tablet usable for me again, thanks!

2015-10-12T22:16:13+00:00 I've noticed this as well; really frustrating when I go to remove my keyboard in the middle of a meeting to lay the tablet flat only to have it reboot. Has been happening for a few months now, I'm about to just switch to another keyboard so I don't have to worry about this anymore.

2015-09-17T14:50:06+00:00 I have also seen this happening on my Surface Pro 2 when the device is bumped. Since I've updated to Windows 10, there are times when the device doesn't reboot, but repeatedly shows the "switch to tablet mode" dialog seeming to indicate that some sensor or connection is flaky and not sure if the keyboard is attached, or being moved in or out of the closed or tablet folded back mode.
