Surface Pro 1 on Windows 8.1 reboots when Type Cover 2 is removed

19th of Octobern 2014 and still no solution to this problem... so sad.

I have a similar issue where the keyboard goes unressponsive, and I remove and reattatch the type cover in order to get it working, and then boom it restarts, and unsaved work is lost.

The level of annoyance is reaching pure frustration.

It also seems to be completely random, I have as of yet not found a method to recreate the bug 100% every time.

on the event viewer it lists it as event ID 41 kernel power, I've had it happen to me four times today and it's only 2 pm

Only just joined the world of Surface Pro 2, on Wednesday, after using a Surface 2 for nearly a year.

I am having this issue, it happened three times last night.

I have a Type Cover 2

It seemed to coincide with me flipping the cover from type mode to the rear of the tablet.

I will try the suggestion about sticky keys but I think there may be larger underlying problem.....

Don't really want to send it back as I've only just got it :-(

And just to add that I have had two surface devices (having sent mine back as a hardware fault) and two keyboards and this is still happening. If you are reading this and know other people with Surface  devices can you log on this thread whether they have had the problem and what device they have?

hi to all, same here....surface pro 2 rebooting with type 2 keyboard. Take it off, absolutely no issues.... but with it on....as many as 3+ reboots in a ten minute time frame. 

also notice the 'keyboard going MIA' like previously outlined in the thread....taking the keyboard off and on fixes this but it's strange to lose it mid stream

I've loved the Pro 1 and 2 with interest in the three but this is immensely frustrating.

I tried this and I'm sorry to say I'm still getting the reboots. It's a nice idea and I'm certain that there is a software issue in a driver somewhere because as jhawk2k14_2k16 points out, it was fine in Windows 8.
