I bought Surface Pro 2 recently. It is a brand new computer. All I have done is to use it doing homework, watching videos. 

But it happened several time recently, I am doing nothing, just letting it on.  it suddenly crashed and let me search for  "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal (mwlu97w8x64.sys)". what does this mean?

Thank you for the reply. I understand you are having the same issue on your replacement device and I know this is a frustrating situation for you. I'm here to guide you in the right direction. 

Please try the following:

  1. Back up your files.
  2. Do a reset.
  3. Go to Charms>Settings>PC settings>One Drive>Sync Settings>Turn off Sync your settings on this PC. This step will isolate the settings from other computers that might affect your Pro 2.
  4. Install all updates.
  5. Install your apps back one by one to see if the problem comes back with certain apps.
  6. If the problem continues, please contact our Support.

    I don't know if this helpful or not. I have "Microsoft Complete" for my Surface Pro 2 and had it exchanged again at the Microsoft store. For whatever reason this newest device does not get the BSODs on my school network. I can't prove that getting a new device fixed it, but I can assure you I tried everything on the old SP2's including system refreshes, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, etc. If you have the "Microsoft complete" warranty it might be worth looking into.

    I think it has something to do with the network you are on. Are you on a community network? I noticed that I did not have any issues with the crashing if I disconnected my computer from the network. I only had this issue on my schools network.  So basically I would suggest watching YouTube on a different network and also disconnecting from the Internet when you use Microsoft Word.

    Thanks for reply. Actually I am on school network and I do not have any other network here to test it. But it's actually a protected network not an opened one! I do not connect to opened network ! I don't know even if I do have problem when I am connected to opened one or not!

    Hello All

    I do have the same problem with my surface pro with win8.1. I have teh screen maybe two,three times a week. I have re-installed every thing one time and this is the second time that I do have the same problem. Mostly I have this problem when I am watching some videos on Youtube. But I have the problem at other times as well. When I am writing something in Ms Word, When I am downloading something, ....

    I really don't know how to solve the problem. Please let me know what should I do as I don't know if my warranty time has expired or now. But I can say that I bought this in 2014 at a local Bestbuy.
