Screen flicker and ghosting

My surface pro 4 developed a horizontal line across the top of the screen, and then ghsot windows appeared of closed boxes during use, to the extent where the screen became unreadable and a restart was needed.

My device warranty expired in April, and i understand that MS doesn't do anything except replace the device if there's an issue, so my question is, without a warranty, what is there to do?  I can't believe that after a year, a device that costs as much as a top-end laptop, brakes and has to be thrown away.

Anyone had any similar issues and found solutions?

    I'm arranging a replacement next week. When I asked the support guy would this issue happen again after sometime since this is a hardware design problem, he spoke evasively with no confirmed answer. Also, they will only replace it with a refurbished machine, not a new one. So I'm not convinced they have resolved the problem, it will come back in the future.

    I will never buy Microsoft hardware again  i bought mine new, never expected to have it fail so badly so quickly, and zero recognition of the hardware problem from Microsoft. Every tech advice has been a huge time waste of fiddling with settings and updates and drivers etc... of course the techies are all trained to do that , which is just adding insult to injury. No-one will admit, despite the mounting evidence in this and other forums, that defective hardware is the cause. Built-in defective hardware, sold by Microsoft.

    I proved that its a hardware issue by getting the ghosting even when in the UEFI, so before Windows loads

    I manage by having a external fan blowing at the top right corner.   If I use YouTube I disconnect the charger

    I will never buy refurbished again.
