My surface pro 4 developed a horizontal line across the top of the screen, and then ghsot windows appeared of closed boxes during use, to the extent where the screen became unreadable and a restart was needed.
My device warranty expired in April, and i understand that MS doesn't do anything except replace the device if there's an issue, so my question is, without a warranty, what is there to do? I can't believe that after a year, a device that costs as much as a top-end laptop, brakes and has to be thrown away.
Anyone had any similar issues and found solutions?

I'm having the same problems. Got it replaced last year and it worked, the issue stopped but now has recently came back . None of the fixes have helped and the MS support. Mines out of warranty and really need it for school.
I've seen many people posting about it and the most annoying thing is MS still won't fix it even though loads of people are having the same issue.
Hi. I'm having the same problem. And i hope that MS solve the problem. It seems to be related with temperature. I work with CAD aplication and use a bigger screen, and the problem occours only on SP4 screen. Please MS help us.
This machine has been an utter clusterf**k from start to finish. When it works, it's great but most of the time I can't see what I'm doing.
From what I can tell, it's somehow related to battery power and screen brightness. When I run it off mains, the issues eventually go away (provided I leave a video of something running until the driver sorts itself out) but, off battery, 50% brightness or lower exacerbates the issues. Anything over 75% and the battery power is terrible.
Had no luck getting in touch with Microsoft whilst abroad so it appears that I'm supposed to just deal with it. Still, I've done my fair share of PR on this machine. Whilst sat in hostels, I attempt to show people photos and video. Naturally the display plays up so I can't show them a damn thing, Safe to say they haven't been impressed with the machine. In fact, I met a guy from the UK who's entire office was supplied SP4s. Which have been returned due to the display issues.
Absolutely disgusted with Microsoft's behaviour. I'll probably do the same and get myself a Dell when I eventually get back into the UK. I'm not giving Microsoft another penny if all they do is give me a refurbished unit which will no doubt end up with the same problems.

I spoke with an MS Technician and he said it was a known hardware problem for the SP4, but also said that MS don't do anything to help, and in fact, charge US$50 just to speak to them on the phone about possible solutions, which don't work in the end anyway.
MS are crap in this respect, they bring out a product, don't fix known issues, then charge you 33% of the new unit price to replace the device, and beware the don't fix it, they replace with a reconditioned unit, so that in itself may also have other problems soon after receipt.
All in all, i found the product good up to this point, then i found MS support to be terrible. I got rid of mine and have now gone to a Dell ultrabook, which is just as light and more stable.

I'm having a similar issue with this problem as well.. I went to a microsoft store and they said that as I'm out of warranty that I have to pay 450$ to get a new device. This certainly can't be the only solution? Anyone else have any success with either fixing the machine or getting MS to get us new/replacements even if the warranty is over?
