Surface Pro release date? Where is it available?

I've heard that the Microsoft surface pro is going to be released in January 2013 but does anyone have an exact/approximate date? Because I'm going on a field trip for school to Washington D.C. and would love to buy it before January 25th.

Well, nobody knows release dates or pricing... And who does know will not come here to tell you before doing an official announcement. So, other than complaining about the delay (which i agree with you), what else do you expect from the community?

There have beenn formal announcements regarding the Surface Pro in any countries outside of the USA and Canada. eBay is the only option if there is a seller willing to send it there.

Regarding the release of Surface Pro into the UK, we have released a statement regarding availability. 

Regarding the warranty, if you purchase it from the US, the warranty is only valid in the US until the Surface Pro is released in the UK.

In Indonesia, your only option is eBay and hoping that there is a seller willing to ship there. There have been no formal plans to sell in other countries as of yet.

For a shipment to Spain, your only option is ebay (or a buddy in USA/Canada that can find one and ship to you) and finding a seller willing to ship it there. There are currently NO publicly discussed plans by Microsoft in regards to selling the Surface Pro in other countries besides the USA and Canada.

Hello there!

I just wanted to update you on the latest availability of Surface Pro, as demand is high and we are working as best we can to get more in market.

As of now, additional units have been shipped out in the US to Staples, Best Buy and the Microsoft Store. Another shipment will be made later this week, so customers can expect some units available by end of week. Canada is also following a similar timeline, but may take a few extra days.

Surface Pro will be released in January 2013. Yes it will run all old Windows applications since it runs Windows 8 Pro.

Llethander is correct. No official dates have been set for the Launch of Surface with Windows 8 Pro.  There is however, an approximate release date for the pro, which is 3 months from when Surface with Windows RT was launched.

It is unknown as of yet exactly when the Pro will be released, since Microsoft has not announced a release date, however you should expect to see it some time early in the new year, most likely mid-to-late January.

It is expected to be released 90 days of the Surface RT (which was released on October 25th), so that should give you some ETA.

    I feel for you and I too had a similar experience; I knew the Surface Pro was to be released sometime in February, watching all the release articles since January and so, I have been asking for gift cards and saving my best buy reward dollars for the release date. Finally, I see the February 9th is the day! Awesome! I also saw that there was a huge kick-off event in New York, so there should be tons of Surface Pro 128's in the stores just waiting for me. However, I then thought I might want to order it online from Best Buy at midnight and have it ready at the store, just in case! I also had concert tickets to the Who at the Hard Rock Hotel, so I think, this should be ok, as I can always do this on my iPhone at the concert at midnight. So it was getting close to midnight and I left out of the concert while they were playing Pinball wizard to go and order my Surface Pro 128. I am thinking I should be back to hear the next songs at the end of the concert... So I go to the Best Buy website and locate the Surface Pro 128 and low and behold, the add to cart button is available now! I add it to my cart, hit checkout, as I already have the accessories left from my Surface RT that I sold, and it says that this product cannot be shipped. I am ok with this as I am going to pick it up at the store, so I select find a store. I type in my zip code and it pulls up the store here in Rainbow in Summerlin and it says unavailable. HUH? What is up? ok, ok. so maybe only New York gets them at Midnight, so I will check in the AM when I get up. NP. and back t the concert... I awake this am excited to go and get my Surface! I get online, I go to the best buy site and it still says unavailable. Hmmmmmm. ok, well it is 6am, so maybe they are only going to be available when the stores open. That gives me a few hours to get ready then, cool. During this time, I figured I should inquire with the Best Buy chat people and see when they are available. I get online again and chat with a rep and he says they are all sold out and that I would have to wait until they get more. Miffed and surprised, I ask him, how the heck can that be? I checked at Midnight, 6am and now and you are telling me they are sold out? They must have received a million of them, so I close the chat window on the guy, thinking that this guy doesn't have a clue! Microsoft released them and Best Buy's website is messed up and not letting people buy! I then decide to go to the store at 10am when they open and there was 2 people out front waiting, like me. The doors open they go to movies and TV's and I go to the surface Pro. I tell a rep there, that I want one of the Surface Pro 128's please. And the guy said, sure no problem, let me get someone to help you. We walk over to a guy that tells me that they are sold out. HUH? I was the first in line, how can that be? He then proceeded to tell me that they only got 1 64 and 1 128 Surface from Microsoft. WTF???? Isn't today the release? Yes, he said and they only gave us 2 units. Oh I was pissed! I look online and find out that all stores only received 2 units and the press is having a field day on how fast these things are shipping despite the bad press on it. This makes it look like it is the must have device!!! Yeah right? When there are only 2 in the store, and they sell out in minutes? Really Microsoft? I am so pissed off that I may just not buy one and let everyone know not to buy one. I am a Mid level respected Information Technology Professional that people ask all of the time about products that come out. Well, I can tell you, I will NOT recommend the Surface to anyone that asks and may just tell them to get the Asus with windows 8 or Samsung. Good luck MS and you suck.
