My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.
(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.
We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.
To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

I'm not sure what you mean by stand-by. But this made me wonder. When the unit is in sleep mode, should I have it set so that wi-fi is OFF DURING SLEEP? I have never done that with a laptop, but maybe that would keep it from getting warm?
Hibernate is slower to wake up, I wonder I turning wi-fi back on after waking from sleep makes the time difference a wash.
I use sleep with WiFi off during sleep, and when I wake up the device the WiFi connects in less than two seconds. That's not a wash versus the time for hibernate for me.
The sleep battery drains/heating seems to be addressed after update. But it seems that there is another heating/drains issue when wifi stand-by is turned on.
Battery life is fine when sleep with wifi stand-by off but Surface drains quickly and get heating up with standby on, no matter plug in or not.

I have a applied this update to two of my Surface Pro 4 machines and both of them blue screened, restarted told me I needed to recover the OS..... It then came back on its own. I then had issues with my wifi nic again.......
