i5/256 Surface Pro 4 overheats and battery drains while 'sleeping'

Split from this thread.

My SP4 gets very hot and drains the battery very fast even though it is asleep. I found it very hot in its sleeve and down to 28% earlier today. Found it dead later in the afternoon. This is one of MANY issues this device has.

(My SP4 is not part of the insider program)

Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

As someone who had this issue for the majority of the first few months of initial ownership (I was a base model early adopter) I've no longer had the "hot bag" issue, as we began calling it, since new firmware was released for both the SP4 and SB over a year ago. For the past year, I havent had any further hot bag issues, and many I know who own these same devices dont either. I would contact Microsoft for a possible replacement or for further diagnosis. Good luck!

    Hiya Kimberley

Turn off windows Hello as described in my previous post along with others. It worked for me, now my Surface pro barely gets warm and the battery life has nearly doubled.

Hope it works for you too

    HI There Josh,

I have recently purchased the Surface Pro 4, i5 256GB and I seem to be having similar problems to the gentleman below, where my Surface heats up to quite a hot temperature and the battery does not last long on the device at all.

The Surface was only brought less than 2 weeks ago and is up to date on all the software.

Is there anything that I can do?

    Many thanks
