Remote Desktop Connetion displays Very Small Icons and Jump Lists on Remote Machine

On my remote machine, the desktop icons, icon titles, taskbar and jump lists are puny, very difficult to read the small font size.

I've tried all of the various display/sizing options in my Surface's control panel, and also the display setting tab in Remote Desktop Connection, and have not found any comnbination that works well on the remote and Surface Pro 3. (Also, the sizing options are not so convenient anyway since a sign out is generally needed.)

 I've never had this problem and regularly use RDP on various machines. Are there others with RDP display issues?

    Hello All,

    I was able to get the following working.

    Remote machine I wanted to RDP to: Windows 7 ultimate w/SP1

    Local machine I'm on: Windows 8.1 running on Surface Pro 3 with high DPI screen

    Steps that worked for me:

    1. Download Remote Desktop Connection Manager v2.7 and install it.
    2. Add the remote machine.  In the property ensure that:

        a. "Remote Desktop Settings" tab is set to "Same as client area" or a resolution you prefer.

        b. "Display Settings" tab has both "Scale docked" and "scale undocked" remote desktop to fit window checked.

    1. Browse to c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Remote Desktop Connection Manager\ , right click on RDCMan.exe , properties, compatibility tab, ensure the "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings" checkbox is _unchecked_ .  For mine it was checked by default after installation.

    Test it with various resolution for 2a and see which one works best for you.

    Hello All,

    I was able to get the following working.

    Remote machine I wanted to RDP to: Windows 7 ultimate w/SP1

    Local machine I'm on: Windows 8.1 running on Surface Pro 3 with high DPI screen

    When remoting into Win 8.1 with your suggestions, Modern UI apps don't work at all, although the desktop icons and jump lists display correctly.

    As a workaround, I set up a second server connection in RDCM and set the remote desktop settings size to 1440x900 for when I need to use the Modern apps. With that setting you do get a very slight letterbox effect but everything is visible and usable.

    Has anyone tested this on a Surface Pro 3 using RDCM version 2.7?

    Just tried it. Now it's similar to the standard Remote Desktop Connection Client:

    Icons/Jump Lists are too small when SP3 is using factory display settings. Metro apps work on the remote.

    I'm going back to RDCMan 2.2 since Icons/Jump Lists are normal even though Metro apps won't work (using default SP3 display settings). When I do need to use remote metro apps then I use the standard RDC client.

    I hope they fix the icons/jump list issue in RDCMAn 2.7, because none of the current options as mentioned above are fully satisfactory when using default display settings on SP3.
