wifi issues

I had an issue this morning where Surface couldn't find any wifi networks (when 5 were in the area) and it was connected the previous night. I solved this issue by searching windows rt for Network. Open Network Connections, find the wifi device and then disable this connection. After a minute - I re-enabled the connection and then it started to work.

Just wanted to share my experience if anyone runs into the same issue. Thanks!

Nate

Greetings everyone,

Thank you for your continued interest, feedback and assistance in investigating the Limited WiFi issue on the Surface.

Not all limited connectivity scenarios have solutions that can be controlled by the Wi-Fi drivers of a given device. Limited connectivity scenarios result from a complex interaction of device Wi-Fi drivers, access point firmware, access point configuration, and other environmental factors.

If following the steps in the provided links below fail to resolve your Wi-Fi issue I encourage you to create a new thread.

You will most likely have to do a REFRESH.  Most of us has had to do that.  For some reason or another the driver gets corrupted.  You may also do a trick that most others have done as well as long as you don't have the 8.1 Preview of Windows 8 RT installed.

That trick is to open the Control Panel and go do Device Manager.  Look for the Marvel WiFi adapter and "Uninstall" the driver but "DO NOT DELETE IT".  When finished, reboot the tablet and it should connect.

Try that trick first and if it doesn't work, then do a REFRESH.

Hello priscillaodendaal,

Sorry to hear you are having problems connecting to WiFi.

You should be able to connect to WiFi. Are you getting any errors when trying to connect? Are you able to see the networks and not connect to them?

Let us know.

Best regards.

Thought I would add to this. I have been chasing my tail over this issue and just today thought to search the internet over it actually being a surface pro issue instead of router issues.

Problem: I have had 3 surface pros (two in use, one defective unit returned after March 12th update). They ALL had wireless connectivity problems and still do as of today April 26. 2013. The interesting thing is I didn't even think it was the Pros' to start with.

So I have had the problem with the following routers

Dlink (both an old one, and then bought the office location a new one, same problem)

    ASUS RT-N16

    Buffalo WZR-HP-300NH

    TimeCapsule/Airport

    2Wire

I am also pretty sure It had issues on a netgear and linksys routers.

The problem is always the same, you lose local network connectivity and internet connectivity. Fastest way to fix it is to disconnect from the wireless network and reconnect.

Problem becomes very noticeable in the following situation.

Connect to another machine via homegroup, on that machine copy several files from one location to another (i.e. copy 2-3 video files from desktop to a connected USB drive on the remote computer). The wireless connection will drop every 2-3 minutes or after moving 500 megs or so of data.

Some things in common is all the networks had Apple devices connected. Can't say for sure but it seems like problems are less if no Apple devices connected (ipads, iPhones, Macs) but it may only be my imagination.

On another point. Don't try the Orinica USB 3.0 with RJ45 hub with this. The wired network connector also has the same problem but will lock up the network big time.
