surface book battery drain while shut down

I have been noticing that when I shutdown my surface book, when I power it on the next day the battery has drained some. If I leave it off for a couple of days it will drain down from 100% to around 85% or lower.

I disabled fast startup... and then just decided to disable hibernation altogether. That didn't help.

I have windows hello disabled, but that shouldn't matter anyway since I'm shutting it down, not sleeping.

Some searching and I found a general windows 10 issue with the "Intel Management Engine Interface" driver. Some say that v11 can cause this issue. One solution that I have seen suggested is to go into device manager and in the power management tab for this device uncheck the option that allows windows to power it down to save power. I tried that and it didn't help.

Others have suggested downgrading the driver from v11 to v9 or v10, but I don't know where to get v9 or v10 of this driver that is compatible with the surface book. Anyone know if one of the downloads on Intel's site would be compatible?

So, has anyone else noticed this issue and know of a fix?

    Batteries naturally lose charge when shelved or when disconnected from their power source. It's just physics, they decay. I argue that the battery life measuring logic is different from platform to platform, mac to PC and PC to PC which is the root of so many messages I've seen pop up lately.

    The SB has batteries all over the place, they obviously have more logic in the management, measurement and care and feeding of the lipo cells in the SB than in many of these other devices that only have one.

    Even further, if that's not the case, I'm willing to give MS a pass on loosing 1-2% over (say) 15 hours of fully powered off state. Even Hibernate state. This is a rounding error and there's so many variables to consider. I.e., was the system operating on battery at the time of measurement or A/C? Were the cells in the system well cycled or always powered to 100%. What temperature were they at? It all matters. Surprisingly well cycled lipo batteries have a longer life than ones that spend their lives fully charged, and they live longer in the middle of their charge cycle, not at holding 100% for longer. So these 1 and 2% issues are just noise.

    The problem with these last couple days of messages is that it's distracting from the issue. Standby is broken, absolutely does not work. Hibernate is a work-around to the defect, not a solution. And what can we do to get MS to put more effort into fixing it. Money talks with any corporation. I will be returning mine at the end of my return period and most likely ordering a new one. For each return there is much cost of re-inventorying and refurbishing and reselling. If you want to help Microsoft fix the problem, return your device and let them see increments on their defective SB returns. I love the platform they built, but we all agree they need to fix some pretty large new product issues before it's one I'll take the deep investment hit to own.

    Also self-discharging is not linear. It is faster in the first  24 hours.

    All lithium ion batteries self-discharge. At 25 C, it is typically to loose 25% charges after one month without any use.

    On that note, BB, I think one problem is that it's hard for us to know which problems are from Windows 10, which are from Skylake, and which are from the SBs themselves. All three are new and any could be the problem, so at what point do we return the SB for a different unit?

    Any good articles out there compiling complaints from new laptops such as the Radius, the Yoga 900, Spectre x360, etc. that all use Skylake and Windows 10 now? If not, you should write one up!

    If any Macs were currently using Skylake, then they would probably have the same driver and power mgmt issues we're having. It's also related to Windows 10 and hardware/driver compatability. They will iron out the kinks soon and give us better battery life. The question is, can you wait? If you can't, then don't. End of story.
