I've found a solution. I've tested the surface pro and wireless adapter now and you need a very high powered USB power feed or it just goes wrong. Now with the surface books they are completely unusable and it has nothing at all to do with power. Microsoft's wireless adapter does not work and did not work at Microsoft Reading the other week either. I was in their Technology Centre and my team was presenting using their kit and there were loads of disconnects. My opinion it does not work and MS does not want to fix it. Find another solution.
Wireless Display Adapter Disconnects
Using the adapter with my Surface Pro 3 and I'm seeing lots of disconnects especially during videos. Anyone else seeing this.

Totally agree. The only relevance of the age of this thread is that it demonstrates Microsoft's negligence. The length of the thread demonstrates that it is still completely relevant.

2014-11-01T15:28:08+00:00 I bought the new Microsoft wireless display adapter from the Microsoft store. My wireless connection is fine. Its when its connected to the display adapter using WiDi or Miracast tech for screen mirroring is when it disconnects.
During one disconnect the wireless adapter on my Surface Pro gave me the red X. I had to restart to get networking working again. Other than that no other error messages. When I demoed this at the store I saw the same issue.

2014-11-01T15:14:47+00:00 Hello Anthony,
Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community Forum.
As per the description, I understand that wireless internet connection on your computer disconnects running videos.
I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.
- Do you get any error message when wireless internet connection disconnects?
- Does the wireless bar icon at the system tray shows red X or the Ethernet cable icon?
- Were there any significant hardware or software changes made prior to this issue?
A wireless network router has a limited broadcast range. The further the computer is from the router, the weaker the broadcast signal. Solid objects, such as walls, metal furniture, and electrical appliances might interfere with the signal and decrease the usable range.
For testing purposes, move the computer closer to the router and minimize interference from electrical devices. If testing the connection with the computer near to the router proves that the wireless connection does not disconnect at a significant interval, you can move the computer to determine the range of the connection.
Possibly, the wireless connection reset itself after a certain interval and in the process internet connection disconnects and reconnects.
Let’s try these methods below and check if that solves the problem.
Method 1:
First, try using the Network Adapter troubleshooter to automatically find and fix some problems. This troubleshooter will disable and re-enable the adapter and try some other common repairs:
Open the Network Adapter troubleshooter by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering troubleshooting in the search box, and then tapping or clicking Troubleshooting. Tap or click Network and Internet, tap or click Network Adapter, and follow the instructions on your screen.
Method 2:
This issue can also be related to network adaptor, resetting, updating driver, disabling, re-enabling, uninstalling and reinstalling network adaptor may help.
Follow the steps in the article below to fix network adaptor problems.

Method 3
Try to update the drivers for network adapter and for that you may follow the steps provided in the following article.
Drivers are updated occasionally. Windows can update them automatically, or you can install the updated drivers yourself. It's important for you to have confidence in the updated drivers you install. Windows notifies you if it detects a suspicious or unsafe driver you shouldn't install.
If issue still persists or under device manager it states that your network adapter is up to date then please try to update it fro the manufacturer's website.
Hope this would help. If issue still persists post back with current status of your computer and result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to assist you.
Thank you.
