Hi.

The last month, my surface keyboard (External bluetooth version), keeps loosing connection to my surface book 2, if i have been away from the office, or my Surface book 2 has been in standby..... (I have tried to change the batteries in the keyboard)

When it happens (Which is does many times a day), i have to delete the paired surface keyboard on the surface book.. wait about a minute, and the press the pair button on the keyboard, and pair it with my surface book again. Then i works undtil the nex time it has been in standby or i have been away from the office....    I have han the surface book and keyboard 7 months, and have never been a issue before a month ago.  (I have tried to run e driver update, and the bluetooth repair, nothing helps.

They funny thing is, that i have a business partner in another company with the same setup as mine, he told med that he has the same issue with keyboard as i have....

Any ideas what our problem is, and are there other with the same issue???

I get the exact same problem myself with my Microsoft Wedge Keyboard. It’s always disconnecting from my computer and can take up to 10 minutes to reconnect. When it does finally decide to reconnect it would more often than not start type non-stop a single letter (eg. wwwwwwwwwwwww). I notice this also happens when I plug in a USB stick into the computer, seems as if the USB stick is interfering with the the keyboard and/or bluetooth in some way. I also noticed when the device is “Paired” it doesn’t seem to work, it will only work when it says “Connected”.

I did upgrade my very old v2.1 Bluetooth USB dongle to a newer USB v4.1 dongle and that has made the device disconnect less, but it still happens a lot more than it should. I have also connected the same bluetooth keyboard (Microsoft Wedge Keyboard) on my Mac running MacOS to see how it would react, and the keyboard worked flawlessly for weeks, so surely it isn’t an issue with the keyboard.

I have tried pretty much everything that people have suggested in this feed, but nothing has worked. I did hear Windows 10 v2004 is improving the way in which you connect a device to bluetooth, at least makes it easy to connect, maybe Microsoft will behind the scenes fix this issue, least that is what I am hoping for.

I have found my Surface Bluetooth keyboard disconnects far less frequently since I installed the specific driver for my USB Bluetooth adapter. Before I installed it, the keyboard would disconnect many times a day. Now its once every couple of weeks.

Windows 10 will automatically install a driver for these devices - but the one from the manufacturer seems much better in this respect.

You'll need to identify the manufacturer of the bluetooth dongle (or chip if built-in) and visit their website support section. Download and install the driver (just like any other windows installer).

Worth a try. Probably a good idea to create a restore point before you do it though - that way you can roll-back if anything unexpected happens.

I have a surface pro studio 1 with original keyboard mouse and dial. The keyboard and the dial disconnect all the time after inactivity. I heard before there was a sleep setting that needed to be turned off for this, but i cant find anything like that in the settings. Its very infuriating and would love a fix for this problem. This is the only thing that keeps me from recommending this computer as the best answer for creative people. But i cant in good conscious recommend a good computer, with faulty hardware. FIX THIS!

I am using a Microsoft bluetooth surface keyboard on my own custom built PC. Recently, randomly I have been getting the behaviour described in this thread. The device disconnects (all lights turn off) and whatever the last key press is, eg m, is being typed non stop on the pc 'mmmmmmmmmmm'.

    Please fix this!

Follow up...  My bluetooth Surface mouse and so on keeps the connection, it is only the keyboard who has this issue!

All my products are MS with my Surface Pro (8 months old) - both keyboard and arc mice regularly disconnect and only solution seems to be to remove and then add - serious hassle.

    Any help would be appreciated.
