Surface Pro 4 - Screen won't wake from sleep

I received my Surface Pro 4 today and it worked fine. I put it on "sleep" for awhile, came back and turned it on. Once again it worked fine. I made an error and instead of putting it on "sleep" I  hit the power button to turn it off when I finished. Now it won't come on at all. The screen stays dark. If I push the power button I can see lights under the keyboard keys, then if I hit the power switch again they go off. But nothing happens to the screen no matter what I do. Has anyone else suffered from this?

It works fine for me after the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Pro (Version 1607). It no longer goes into a coma.

I just traveled all week. Put my Surface Pro 4 (SP4) to sleep 10 to 20 times each day, and currently my task manager shows the up time to be 7:21:35:21 - 7 days! It is actually working the way I expected it to when I bought it!

It was such a relief to not be scared to put it to sleep during meeting breaks to save battery when working with my Pen and OneNote. For the past 7 months I've had to have it on power when in meetings so that it wouldn't go into a coma. That was always so embarrassing.

You can update to the latest version of Windows 10 by opening Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and selecting Check for updates.

    I tried uninstalling the display, monitor drivers (and display link drivers that I have) but it wants to reboot to complete unistall and then it simply reinstalls the display driver during boot :(

    This is expected behavior when deleting something in Device Manager.  The process forces a reinstall of the existing driver, which is sometimes useful.

    Well the message says you need to restart to **complete** removal. Confusing.

    Anyway I eventually got the Dec. drivers to install but then the external HDMI monitor did not work so I rolled back.

    Plus I just got another failure mode. Sleep using power button with keyboard attached. Wake up with power button and touch works but keyboard does not.

    This is pathetic! I'm getting ready to return and move on.

    Not sure why you got Code 31 when trying the new drivers.  I noticed the new driver covers multiple editions.  Mine is the 520, others here have 540.  It should recognize what you have in your SP4 and install the correct one.

    I installed the new driver last night, used it for an hour, no issues.  This am I flipped open the keyboard and pressed the power button for a second, as it should be in hibernation at that point.  The lights on the keyboard were active, but no other signs of life.  Oh boy I thought, here we go again.  After 30 seconds of tapping things, I did Ctrl-Alt-Del and voila, the screen came on.  When I logged in, everything from the night before was still open.

    I totally agree with this story. I bought my Surface Pro 4 to take with me from UK to USA where I had an important meeting with my Attorneys. That meant I needed to rely on word documents I was carrying with me on a memory stick.

    Luckily I had my UK cellphone with me as the morning of my first meeting I had to trawl the Net using that to discover the two button trick when the Surface Pro wouldn't start up. That all made me late! During that 10 day trip I had to "two-button" start the damned thing at least 6 times.

    This failed for me with these December Intel drivers failing to load with a code 31.

    I noticed when using the "show hidden drivers" option in in Device Manager that several monitors were installed. However uninstalling them all made no difference, it still 'crashes'.

    On extra piece of info is that I set the tablet mode switch to always prompt and sometimes when opening the keyboard again I get a message asking if I want to switch to tablet. This indicates a race condition between keyboard powerup and coming out of sleep (if indeed it did go to sleep).
