Surface Pro 7 charger randomly stops working

I bought my Surface Pro 7 about 5 months ago and the charger has been giving me problems for about a month now. It only sometimes charges and it seems to be random when it does. I have to plug and unplug the charger multiple times in multiple outlets around the house in order for the Surface to recognize it, and when it does I have to leave it be because if I move it in any way, it stops charging again. 

Please if anyone has had this problem or has anyone knows what I could do, it would be appreciated. Not sure if the problem is the charger but it is very frustrating since the device is brand new and I haven't even used it for a year.

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry.  

To verify if it's a problem with the charger or the charging port, we suggest the following:

• Try a different Surface Charger and check if the issue is resolve.

• Clean the tip of the charger with a cloth, dirt might be blocking the connection. 

• Try the current charger to a different Surface Device.

We recommend following the steps at What to do if your Surface power supply or charger doesn’t work and requesting service if needed.

    I actually called the support Microsoft number yesterday morning and although my system is still under warranty he could give me a choice to pay extra to get the cord in less than 4-7 days. My Surface was dying and I need a charging cord ASAP. I asked him to have a supervisor call me and over 30 hours later I still haven’t received a call. I would not ever recommend anyone spend this much money on a Surface Pro 7. I have had it 7 months and have had problems almost the entire time. It was replaced at 4 months because it would over heat and just turn off and not turn back on. And now I can’t even charge my Surface so I can use it and get to my files. Right now I rate the Surface Pro 7 and their customer service at zero.

    Wow. I'm glad I'm not the only one whos been going through this. Kind of makes me wish I did some investigating before I had bought this product.

    For the past 5 months, I've had to do a strange ritual when plugging in my charger. 

    First I would unplug the cord that plugs into the socket from the base converter box.

    I wait at least 10 seconds before plugging it back in.

    then I plug into the electrical socket. 

    Last I plug the magnetic attachment into the Surface very slowly.

    This ritual worked 95% of the time.  I knew because the light would turn on.

    If not, I would repeat it again, and it usually worked the second time around.

    Just today it wouldn't charge, no matter how many times I did the ritual. 

    Thus I quickly searched hoping to find some answers before my surface pro dies.

    But I'd like to say that I it's now charging again.

    I followed what the first comment by microsoft and used a cloth to wipe the magnetic connector, then it worked immediately!

    But I also purchased the after market adaptor on amazon as a previous poster suggested so now waiting for that one to see how it works!

    Just adding my name to the list of unhappy users. Bought my Surface Pro 7 last August, charger started acting up 3 or 4 months later. Tried everything everyone else has tried (plugging, unplugging, different outlets, reversing the plug, reversing the magnetic connector, etc). The charger's light randomly turns on, and when it does the tablet charges with no problem. But it hasn't worked for the past three days, and tomorrow I have three classes... Microsoft SUCKS!

    Big tech intentionally designs their products to fail within a few years or at least after the warranty expires. Buy an aftermarket charger from Amazon and problem solved. Microsoft and Apple are among the many flagships that are sinking because they chose greed over customer satisfaction.

    Their 'handling' of the widely known charging problem has essentially forced me to never purchase another Microsoft product again.
