With 8.1 update 1, type/touch cover 2 can now perform double tap-drag. All hail lord Microsoft.
Double tap to left click and drag on trackpad
Hello, I was trying to find a way to click and drag by using the Type Cover 2 trackpad without keeping the left mouse button pressed. Most touchpads nowadays register a rapid double click as a "left click and drag" command and, according to the documentation on Microsoft's website, the Type Cover 2 should as well. However, I tried to use the feature both in Desktop programs and UI apps with no success. How to left click and drag without keeping the trackpad's left mouse button pressed?
Edit: called the customer service, and I was told that the team is aware of the issue and that a fix is planned.

Greetings all,
The “Tap, then tap and slide one finger in any direction" gesture to perform a “left-click and drag” is not supported in Windows 8.1 for precision touchpads such as Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2.
The “left-click and drag” function can be performed on Touch Cover 2 and Type Cover 2 by holding the left touchpad button down and then sliding a finger in any direction.
We’ll be updating the inaccurate information in Touchpad: A built-in mouse.

2014-05-01T14:30:51+00:00 Just restarted again, the basic tap to left click stopped working, it seemed to just do a mouse-down but no mouse-up, way to go with scroll-bars. Perhaps I type and swipe too quickly for the driver :(
If I could go back I would not buy a Surface PRO 2 and I'm unlikely to buy any future MSft hardware after this debacle.
Another bug is with IE11, though what is to blame is unsure. More often then not one mouse-pad click does 2 clicks on IE11's scroll-bars. Other scroll-bars are fine, and IE11 has been full of bugs since release.

2014-05-01T14:11:12+00:00 My euphoria after getting the update to enable click-drag is well and truly gone.
The updated driver is really unstable and frequently, as in several times per day, the touch pad malfunctions. Problems are a like the wrong settings are in place such as click-lock.
It is not hardware specific, connections need cleaning, that is just rubbish excuse.
Restart always resets it nicely but that is very inconvenient. The problems or resetting after 'go to sleep' or reconnecting the keyboard are pretty random. Sometimes it works, some times stops working properly.
Very poor indeed.

2014-04-30T18:08:18+00:00 btw, there is a known bug. if the system goes to sleep or if you close the cover. it loses the double-tap capability. disconnect and reconnect the touch or type cover 2 brings back the functions.
