My Surface Book 2 i7 256gb is experiencing coil whine.

Is there anyway to get around this?

Definitely notice coil whine whenever my SB2 is plugged into charging and on high performance mode. I am concerned about this issue as I was hoping issues like these didn't come with such a high price tag.

Update 8/1/2018:

Thank you for your feedback. We have published a set of drivers and system updates which helps mitigate this issue. This is now available in Windows Update.

We recommend that you install the latest updates to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

As a temporary workaround, we suggest that when your Surface is plugged into the power supply, click on the battery icon in the Windows taskbar and set the Power Mode slider to either “Recommended” or “Better performance.”

You can find the details of the latest update on our Surface Book 2 update history page.

So this is classed as normal? I'm also experiencing this issue although the static/buzz is only noticeable in a quiet room

Just purchased a 1TB SB2 13" in Canada (lot 1743) and it has the same problem.   This situation is totally unacceptable and will be returning the product.   Did they not even test these machines before releasing them to production?   First time in 30 years that I've had a premium notebook PC with coil whine.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Surface Book 2 has just been released and should be in perfect working condition upon receiving your device. We understand that it may be causing the undesired noise when using the device. This is normal given the high-powered component and the specs of this model.

Nonetheless, if this is giving inconvenience on the way you utilize the Surface, we suggest that you drop by the same store where you've purchased it. Our staff will assist you and should replacement be required, there should be no issue at all.

    Hope this helps. Cheers.

I bought it on release day directly from the store (I pre - ordered it at the physical store). I discovered the issue the day after, but they could not make the replacement because the remaining SB2 they had were for pre - orders only. I had to wait until Sunday to see if the other pre orders were not purchased. Luckily for me, one person didn't go back to purchase his so they kindly put it on hold for me and I was able to exchange it. This one is from a different LOT (1743), the one i had before was 1742. Not sure if that made the difference, but there is a noticeable difference in sound. While you can still hear it when in performance mode in a quiet room, it gets tuned out by most sounds.
