Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

I tried the restoration point as well, but it didnt work. I also made a new restoration point, and when it stopped working I went back to that one but no success. Concluding, I dont think the restoration point method works very well.

For most people this only works temporarily. After a certain Windows update the problem returns

I also experienced this with my other typecover (I had two). Simply turning rotation lock on and off and then removing and reattachoing the typecover worked for me in that instance.

GoodKeyboard573 solution worked for me temporarily.

But then the keyboard stops working at random.

I found that after doing those steps, depleting the battery and charging it overnight with the type cover connected, brings it back to life again.

I did a restoration point with the last working reboot just to make sure i can turn back if a backgound update breaks it again

I have the same issue and it is recurring. What has worked for me so far is to open the "computer management" snap-in, click on Device Manager, expand "Keyboards". With this open, remove the cover/keyboard and snap it on again. It will show up after a few seconds and will work again....

... until the next random time it stops working...

... repeat the steps above until Microsoft fixes the issue.

At least it is a work-around that worked for me on a couple of occasions and it beats spending USD 450.-.
