Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere. 

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

    Here is my final attempt to install the drivers and only to realize that Microsoft decided to fool the customers and if your type cover is not working, it is most likely intentional to force you to buy the next model or to make you believe it is a hardware issue.

    Yesterday after discovering that my driver folder under system32 does not have SurfacePro4TypeCoverIntegration.sys file needed for the keyboard to work, I was able to get the driver package (inf +sys+cab files) and tried to install the drivers manually into my SP4 (device manager>action menu>add legacy hardware> install the hardware manually> have disk> select the SurfacePro4TypeCoverIntegration.inf) which gives the error "the folder you specified does not contain a compatible software driver for your device. if the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64 based systems".

    driver package location - **removed link to 3rd party site hosting Microsoft intellectual property. Microsoft files and drivers are not redistributable**

    This looks like the end of our hope. the x64 drivers made for SP4, are not compatible with our devices. Interestingly I found "surface3typecoverintegration.inf_amd64_be4dfba7097178de" folder with SP3 drivers at C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository which might explain the type cover incompatibility.

    Thank you so much for uploading these files. The surface keyboard was missing in my folder and added to the drivers. however I couldn't add the other two sys files because windows doesn't let me add, as the service starts for those drivers as soon as system turns on (even in safe mode). tried to stop some services, but didn't work. I think there are other files that are needed to support the driver sys file. I couldn't select this driver to update the existing HID keyboard driver.

    I will check around if it is possible to make it work. Meanwhile, Microsoft if you're listening, this is the evidence that your developers corrupted our systems. that driver is the basic driver needed for this device to use SP4 like a laptop. It is not the user error or hardware damage, surface type cover driver should be the primary driver package for our computers.

    After the firmware update, I did uninstall the Surface typecover from Device Manager (choosing to delete the driver), rebooted and ran a Windows update which pulled the driver down again (don't know if it was a newer version - unfortunately didn't make a note of the version before deleting).

    Windows version 1903 with all updates applied.

    Hugely surprised it's still working, but definitely firmware related.

    Can you please click on the surface type cover properties under device manager> Driver tab > Driver details and post back the name of the drivers you see there. It shows the location where the drivers are saved. Appreciate if you can copy those sys files and post it to some online drive and share with us. Thank you

    When I first read your comment, I was in my "office" mode using my Logitech keyboard and mouse.  Went to my device manager and low and behold, no cover listed.  Shut down and went to my "portable" mode, surface keyboard and Microsoft flexible mouse.  Powered up and "Ta-Da", Surface Type Cover Filter Device listed, date 3/23/2017 v.1.1.504.0 out of File Version 10.0.18362.1 (WinBuild 160101.0800)

    Highlighted driver C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\kbdclass.sys.  I believe the unhighlighted driver is for my Logitech keyboard.

    This raises some questions in my mind that are way beyond my expertise.  As I recall, and that's a stretch from a severe concussion, When my keyboard wasn't working, the driver was there.  Maybe the problem has to do with what is the default keyboard.  Anyhow, way outside my paygrade.  Perhaps this is part of the programming and the "up-grades".
