Surface Pro 4 type cover suddenly not working.

I don't know what happened. I turned my Surface Pro 4 on the other day and the type cover is dead. No lights. No response. No indication that it's working at all.  I rarely take my surface anywhere.

This started on July 9th 2018. My system information is below. I've gone through all of the steps in the "Troubleshoot your Surface Type Cover or keyboard" page. I've tried to manually download and install the latest firmware and drivers from the "Download firmware and drivers for surface" page. I picked SurfacePro4_Win10_16299_1801701_1.msi. My device manager does not show the "Surface Touch Cover Filter Device" under keyboards or anywhere. It only shows the HID keyboard and cannot detect my type cover. The type cover is completely unresponsive. Also, my windows updates are completely up to date. I've provided the links to the troubleshooting pages I used below.

If you hear of something Arran please do let us know.  Very frustrating.  I took my unit to a local BestBuy (and Geek Squad looked at it).  We tried new keyboard but neither one worked on the Surface.

I have literally read all the threads, fixes, reinstalled windows and the "best" option I have been offered is to purchase a $450 out of warranty refurbished unit.  What really stinks, is I LOVE my surface, as it is perfect for my needs but I am disappointed in the amount of issues that I have read about the last 4 days, and then be offered to buy a refurbished unit for $450 when Microsoft is selling a NEW Surface 5 with a type cover included for $599.

Anyways, if anyone comes up with anything, please share with the rest of us!  Again, I love my surface and will probably buy another one (this has been my only issue) but I would sure rather wait because this one still isn't 2 years old)

    Have a great day!

I checked my invoice as I couldn't remember if I bought it under my firm or personally (NZ has very liberal laws when it comes to guarantees for consumers) and that's when I realised I bought it as my firm (which is what I primarily use it for) and that I paid for the extended warranty.

So I'll be dropping it in for repair today. I doubt they'll provide much information regarding any repair, and I don't believe I have a right to demand such information, but if they do provide any information of use I will pass it on to you all here.

My surface pro 4 type cover die after the update.

the solution is : drain the battery and the 1st start up will revive your keyboard, but after shut down. it die again.

MS ask me to pay $450 for a replacement unit, I dont want the UPDATE, you force to me to update and kill my keyboard and now you ask me to pay for it ? Seriously ?

    Hi.

The type cover problem occurred after 1803 update.

No doubt that Its a software problem.

However let me suggest temporary solution:

Disconnect the type cover from the sp4.

Disconnect the sp4 from the ac, and drain the battery through the night.

After 24 ours connect the typecover to the sp4 and the sp4 to the ac.

It will work temporarily, and it wont solve the fundamental problem.

Its msf task to solve it as soon as possible , as it all msf product.
