I was about to buy today a SP7 for my job but, after reading all this + heating issues + stylus pressure issues, spending 1300€ on this is starting to feel like a waste of money. For that amount I would expect it to work for not less than 4-5 years.
For those who already own one, do you think it's worth it or should I look for a more reliable laptop?
Thank you very much.
To give a slightly different opinion...I think it depends what you want/need. From my perspective, there is no comparable device available. When it's working well, it is an absolute joy and I can't imagine ever being without it. I had a Surface Pro 4 (granted,
it got replaced under warranty early on because the screen was playing up) for three years and it was superb. I would have continued using it for many more years and been completely satisfied doing so (if someone hadn't stolen it).
But...clearly, there are reliability issues and problems that can go unresolved indefinitely. Since applying fix #4, my Pro 7 has been completely reliable and I have
loved it. Instant wake and the speed of Windows Hello still blows me away, compared to the Pro 4. I'm actually using it in tablet mode now, which I never did with my Pro 4, and it feels like a functional tablet (not just a PC in tablet form). So really, love
it.
But before I got this issue resolved, I seriously thought through whether I could manage with an iPad Pro. Purely for the sake of reliability/dependability. In the end, I had to conclude that I
could not do the work I need to on anything that isn't running a full OS. I never want to go back to a laptop. And I don't think there is another Windows tablet that can compare with the Surface Pro. And so...for me it
isworth it. But the maths will be different for everyone. And it felt different for me too, the day my Surface was shutting itself down every 5 minutes.
Many thanks! I actually was interested because I both needed a tablet + a laptop. Great part of my job is to teach some BI softwares which are only available for full OS (some of them like Power BI only availbale for Windows, so that pretty much ruled out
everything else), plus I spend much time of the day reading documents and papers, which is not very comfortable to do on a laptop. On top of that, being able to draw with my hands when teaching online would be very nice for me, it's a bit weird trying to do
so with my mouse as I do now.
I was doubting between something like a Surface Pro, which is more expensive but solves both problems and doesn't involve carrying multiple devices, and going simply for a laptop + tablet, which could even be
cheaper and less problematic for what I see...
Appart of the shutting down problem, do you experience any other issues, like overheating or stylus not working correctly?
Thank you very much
