Not sad, it's false advertising - I've checked and this device still spruiks ability to use NFC with Google Wallet . No one in 2023 walks around with a phone/device that does not have this capability, because that is a ridiculous suggestion. Particularly if you have paid the price gouging amount that we paid in Australia for the Surface Duo 2. I bought this with the stated feature of NFC payment via Google Wallet. The device no longer has this feature/capability.
Surface Duo 2 tap to pay using Google Wallet stopped working
Tap to pay using Google wallet when connected to an approved credit card is no longer working. The issue presented in the last few days prior to the security update. I've used it flawlessly for many months on this phone and now it refuses to work, it simply vibrates when tapped to a terminal. Not sure if it's google or microsoft in this instance but it's unlikely my bank after having spoken to them it seems to be more likely one of the former. Other Duo owners are reporting the same issue. Note that my loyalty cards still function OK with NFC Google wallet. I'm in Australia.

2023-09-09T07:58:54+00:00 On the one random day a week that it works, this is in book mode, the back of the left screen is where I generally aim at the terminal; on the other 6 days that it does not [so the new normal!!] it works in neither phone nor book mode, despite my futile attempts at aiming every part of the thing at the terminal in a desperate attempt for it to work so I can just get my purchases and leave the store without any further embarrassment ..... There seem to be a lot of us from Australia on here with this issue, my absolute irritation at no acknowledgement or fix for WEEKS now is probably feeding my paranoia, but maybe we just got sub-standard devices as usual 😉 And those poor people everywhere else got glitchy devices that were supposed to be for the Australian market 😂

2023-09-09T00:55:49+00:00 No, I'm not running the beta version of anything either so that has no bearing on this for me. As I've said a couple of times, for me it works intermittently and always has done from the start of this. Works one day - every card, every merchant, every terminal. Then does not work for the next 5 or 6 days. Then works again for one day. Until Microsoft [or Google] acknowledges that the issue exists and states what the issue is and that it has been actually fixed by Microsoft [or Google], me or anyone else having some success for one day is not going to convince me that this is not going to refuse to work again 2 days later!!
