Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday,  seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).

WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.

Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Hope this helps

K

Try a two button reset

Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.

if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.

I also am having this problem and it seems to be getting worse.  I have a new computer as they replaced my original one.  Last night I was looking up "The 100 Season 3" and then I was going to those web sites to read about it.  The computer started crashing constantly.  Now, granted those sites are entertainment sites with lots of pop ups etc going on.  But my Surface Pro 3 does not crash on any of those sites.  It can handle them flawlessly.  I switched to Chrome and still had the same problem.  It took 5 or 10 minutes for it to start and then I had to reboot several times. This morning I was reading an article on how to save Google Maps offline and it started again.  It seems to get worse when I click on a link in an existing article that then takes me to another article.

I hope some sort of fix comes out very soon for this.

We are very frustrated with our new Surface Pro 4.  We had a Pro 3 that had so many problems we took it back to the store and exchanged it for the Pro 4.  The overheating issues are not as severe, but we still get the Display Driver error messages.  It says "Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered."  Unfortunately, the Google Maps program we are on does not recover and pixellates etc and has to be restarted.  We also get the same message when using Microsoft's own solitaire suite of games.  Why is the Driver identified as for Windows 8 and not Windows 10?

We are current for all updates and the Driver is the one that come with the computer.  For a new, supposedly high quality computer, this is completely untenable.  Is this a problem with the machine, with Windows 10, with the drivers or a combination of all three?  Is there a solution, or should I just abandon the Microsoft products altogether?
