Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday,  seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).

WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.

Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Hope this helps

K

Try a two button reset

Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.

if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.

I got a new SP4/i7/256/16 on Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the first day they were available. It worked well at first, but after installing some updates, the Intel Iris 540 driver crashes constantly, sometimes within 30 seconds of login, but always within a few minutes. The only way I've managed to stabilize it is on a fresh boot, go straight into Device Manager and change the display driver to "Microsoft Basic Display Driver". That driver is stable, but seems to be all software rendering, so frame rate on video is poor, for example.

I've installed the latest available Intel driver (version 4326) but as soon as I use that driver, the crashes continue, so I reverted back to the generic driver. (Unfortunately the generic one doesn't support brightness adjustments; the little brightness meter in the top left of the screen goes up and down accordingly but the light never changes, which is killing my eyes and battery life. This works great under the Intel driver.)

I know many others have seen the display driver crashes when the SP4 goes to sleep, but mine crashes regularly without even trying to sleep. None of the other fixes I've read have helped me. I think maybe I'm having a different experience than others because it's a new chipset (Iris 540), but unfortunately this is still very, very broken. Any advice is appreciated....

    Thanks,

    Mick

Extract the zip files into a folder open device manager and right click on Display Adapters\Intel(R) HD Graphics 520.

Select "Update Driver Software"  then " Browse My Computer for driver software"

At the next screen you need to select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"

Then select "have disk" and browse to  "yourlocation\win64_154012\graphics"

If you don't do it this way it  won't install (at least it wouldn't on mine). It took a few minutes to install so be patient but it went in ok.

When installed the graphics driver shows

    Manufacturer as Intel

    Driver date 18/11/2015

    Driver Version 20.16.15.4326

I'm experiencing the same bugs as everyone else, mainly graphics driver crashes and sometimes I find the touchpad unresponsive.  I'll see how I get on with this intel beta driver for the graphics and report back in a few days.

    Cheers

    Dave
