Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday,  seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).

WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.

Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Hope this helps

K

Try a two button reset

Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.

if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.

Since I am now on my third Surface Pro 4 I am having somewhat fewer issues.  The first two never woke up from the "Sleep" function and had to be returned after a few days.  I now only have two intermittent issues left.  The track pad will stop working ( I find that if I close the lid for a few minutes and then open it again the pad works again) and the second issue is the display driver.

I no longer use Sleep at all.  I only use Hibernate.  That seems to have solved that issue. When watching Netflix I will have to re start it initially on occasion. When restarted it normally works but does have some jerkiness if I do not have the computer in Tablet Mode.

When surfing the Internet it is working much better than my first two.  I some times go the the Sponsored sites and those are filled with pop ups.  It has been handling those sites ok most of the time.

My Surface Pro 3 does work far better than this one. I will be keeping this and hope that they can fix the issues.  If a Surface Pro 5 ever comes out I will wait six month before purchasing it.

As has been mentioned here Microsoft screwed up big time on this and has certainly lost some of its "fanboy" base.  Shame on them.  But after all it is Microsoft and this is how they have done things since the 1980s.  And I was around then.

I have had a replacement surface pro 4 (it took 8 working days to arrive!) which appears to be much more stable than my first surface pro 4.

I am no longer having to routinely do the volume and power button restart, however I am still having display driver crashed and flickering displays.

I was over the moon that Microsoft had released a surface pro 4 as the guys I work with love their surface pro 3s. I had been saving up for almost a year to purchase a MacBook pro to replace my aging HP laptop. I do not usually shell out this much on Laptops but wanted something reliable, lightweight and future proof. My colleagues strongly suggested that I purchase a surface pro 4 instead of a MacBook, a decision I am still yet to be fully happy about.

I cannot in all honesty recommend that any one purchase a surface pro 4 over a MacBook. I have friends who have MacBook airs for 4-5 years now with absolutely no issues. At this moment in time I do not believe in quality of this product. If it last more that a year without dying on me I will be surprised.
