Hi All,

We released an update on 2/17/2016 that addresses this issue.

We recommend that you install this update to keep your Surface performing its best. You can get updates now by checking Settings> Update & security> Windows Update.

To confirm the updates are installed, check Settings> Update & security> Windows Update> Advanced options> View your update history.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi

I suspect devices racing to awaken are interfering with each other. Leaving WiFi on during sleep (settings > system>power & sleep), which I set yesterday,  seems to have fixed the black screen on "awakening" problem I have been having on my surface pro 4. (Of course sleep, under the balanced power scheme, consumed up to 23% of battery capacity this way).

WiFi set off during sleep used to reconnect after sign-in and startup. Updates installed in January changed this so that it was on by that time.

Since I've still gotten the MTConfig errors sometimes and also distributed COM errors and warnings on Kernel-PnP: WUDFRd failing to load for device ... and ACPI: EC returned data when none was requested, that were also being reported in the 'System' event log, inelegance remains. However, my screen isn't black and I don't have to force shutdown and reboot to wake the Surface.

Hope this helps

K

Try a two button reset

Step 1: Swipe in from the right and tap or click Settings, tap or click Power, and then tap or click Shut down to shut down Surface. If you can’t shut down Surface normally, press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds.

Step 2: After Surface turns off, press and hold volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button again to turn your Surface back on.

if this does not work, you will need to exchange it.

I ended up going to the Microsoft Store and getting my SP4 replaced.

The representative was really helpful and super informative about the products and told me that installation of drivers and updates are prioritized to older Surface products over newer ones (because he was constantly refreshing my updates to get me to the latest software/update). My new SP4 is still not on the most recent drivers (is does have the 11/18 firmware update though) and so far, *knock on wood*, it's been working fine. I have had no issues, other than it being a bit slow but it might just be because it's not 100% up to date yet.

Hopefully the future updates and fixes will rid us of all problems and allow everyone to fully enjoy their products.

...And I spoke too soon. Just when I clicked Submit, the screen elongated and blanked out. Recovered and gave me that annoying: Your Display Driver has stopped responding". Don't really care as long as I don't have that messy touch screen issue again.

My SP4 was received on first delivery day.   Worked perfectly with some display flutter until software and firmware updates were posted automatically.   Then strange things began to occur starting with the graphics display driver fail and restart.   Currently all software and firmware updates are posted.

Both the Intel driver version and  Microsoft modified version are compromised.   Prior to the updates of 11-18-15, I manually forced the install of the newest Intel graphics driver for Intel HD graphics 520 and it did not fix the problems either.

Microsoft Edge and Excel will cause the driver failure when highlighting a section that covers more than one screen full.  The attempt is to copy the contents

Graphics driver does not fail when running graphics heavy apps like Microsoft card games or other game apps.

Edge will not always copy the contents of the screen into the print panel for web or email content.  The print panel then shows a blank page as does the print panel window.   Went to the three dots and switched to Internet Explorer and it performs the print process properly.   This is graphics based and copy functions again.  Does not cause driver failure though.

Sleep issue workaround is to use hibernate instead of sleep in all of the power settings.  Does not up the battery or heat up the cover like sleep does.

My Surface 3 does not have any of these problems and runs the same Windows 10 software.   So it appears that Skylark drivers appear to be the problem in both the Intel and Microsoft versions.
