I can pair my airpods with my Surface book 2 laptop, however they will rapidly connect and disconnect. And when it says "connected", no sound will play through the airpods. I've tried looking up a couple of fixes online but nothing is working.

I can pair my airpods with my Surface book 2 laptop, however they will rapidly connect and disconnect. And when it says "connected", no sound will play through the airpods. I've tried looking up a couple of fixes online but nothing is working.

I had the same exact problem with the Airpods Pro. My problem, as you mentioned, was the the rapid flickering back and forth between Paired andConnectedwith the Airpods ultimately never connecting.

For me, the solution was to restart the whole process as follows:

  1. Place your Airpods or Airpods Pro back into the case > Close the case > Set the Airpods down.
  2. On your Surface computer > Settings > Devices
  3. Select Add Bluetooth or other device > Bluetooth
  4. Pickup Airpods Case > Open Airpods case (Don't remove Airpods) > Press/Hold button on back of Airpods case until the Airpods are located by your Surface computer.

Your Surface computer should be able to at least find your Airpods by following the above steps.

*This is where I started having the problem stated at the beginning*

Solution:

  1. Go to settings > Type "Device Manager" in the search box.
  2. Once Device Manager is open, select Human Interface Devices
  3. Locate Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device > Right-Click >Properties
  4. Select the 5th tab called Power Management
  5. Locate the checkbox "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and UNCHECK this box!
  6. RESTART COMPUTER! *(This is what ultimately fixed my problem)*

Hope this helps! Wish it wasn't this complicated but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I couldn't even find a "Bluetooth Low Energy GATT complaint HID device"  under Human Interface Devices, and any other Bluetooth options in the Device Manager didn't have a power management option. However, when I clicked on "Converted Portable Device Control device properties" under Human Interface Devices, I found the power management option and disabled it. My AirPods are working correctly now. I hope I'm not saying this too soon and that it's not just because I just updated my Surface, but I've had this problem for a long time and updates haven't fixed the problem before. Hopefully this will work for you. It's unfortunate we have to deep dive into our settings to get headphones to connect right.

    FIXED

Hey, like many of you, I had the same problem with my airpods pro on my surface laptop 2.

After searching endlessly on google I couldn't find a solution, but then after searching through my sound settings in the control panel, it finally connected.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Pair Airpods with Laptop via Bluetooth Settings (I know it won't actually connect audio but bare with me)
    2. Go to Control Panel
    3. Click on Devices and Printers underneath the Hardware and Sound subheading
    4. Right-click on the Airpods Headphone Icon and select the Sound Settings tab
    5. Right-click the Airpods Stereo Headphones Icon and press the Connect tab

This worked for me and hopefully it works for you too!

It's pretty frustrating that Apple restricts their products so heavily, and this shouldn't have to be such a complicated process!!

No need to post screen shots of all the process as I followed the steps provided in video (blogs) here and also this steps were performed by a microsoft technical support representative via screen sharing and allowing them to access my computer. It never worked. I got rid of my surface. Good riddance. That thing every week comes up with something awful. Last thing it did was that it “lost the ability to open pdf’s”. It took 2 hours out of my work day for the representative to fix a “registry issue”. I was supossed to give a training at work. I has ro reschedule. My company was going to buy like 30 of these machines. I told them not to. You should get rid of yours. It will keep having problems. I will never endorse or jave another surface product. It’s an expensive embarrasment.

    Hi hsaccount

what do u mean by or where did you reinstall the drivers. Are the drivers for airpods?

It would be good if u could screenshot steps here.

    Thanks

I had all the same problems as everyone else but finally, finally got it working.

I just got new Airpods from Apple  and have a Surface Pro 4 and spent several hours going through everyone's posts and trying everything. I was having all the problems everyone reports. First it was showing paired / connected but then seemed to disconnect. The airpods were also not showing up at output options in the Sounds settings. I tried disabling the airpods in the bluetooth settings, installing new drivers.  Then they showed up in the Sound settings but were disconnected (even though bluetooth said they were connected). I was about to give up.

Finally I got it to work trying a combination of things. Just sharing to hopefully reduce someone else's pain.

    1. I went to device manager.
    2. I went to the Device manager and under Bluetooth I uninstalled Airpods. Note there were two Airpods listed there (not sure why). So I uninstalled them both.
    3. Then I went to Device Manager>Sounds and I also had to uninstall Airpods there (there were two and I uninstalled them both).
    4. I then restarted my Surface.
    5. I then reconnected the Airpods via Bluetooth settings (add Bluetooth or other device)

Bingo it worked and I could tell because finally it said "sounds" along with the connection.

Note: I had reinstalled the drivers earlier so that could have impacted the success as well, but new drivers by itself didn't do it.

Hope this saves someone else some pain. Good luck. No fun doing all this painful process to get it working.

Worth it in the end. But man I wish it had been easier.
